Pooks

I apologize if I missed a post. If so, just point me in the right direction but I was curious about how it went when you told your MIL the news (assuming she knows now).

Re: Pooks

  • No apology necessary!!! We only just told them last night. She surprised us both and was not overly dramatic. DH was more shocked than I was. He gave her a little photo album that said something about grandchildren on it. The one really weird part was how many times she kept saying thank you (like a LOT I stopped counting at 12). Eventually I actually sort of slipped and said 'yeah well I guess we are doing this for everyone else huh'. Scott said it weirded him out too but he was just happy that she kept the tears to a minimum.

I am not necessarily taking this as a good sign, eventually she will be giving me advice whenever she sees me. Oh and she did go on a bit about how she can't work now so we better use her as a sitter. Staring at her acrylic nails with the exact same polish she has had for 8 years and I just thought, 'hmmm no I don't think so". Besides I still have a grudge about the fact that she somehow has gotten disability and just got a huge lump some paid to her for 'back pay'. So you are now supposedely disabled and you think I am going to let you watch my kid all day, not so much.

My sisters however were insanely ecstatic. It was so genuine that I couldn't get too annoyed.

  • Glad it went better than you expected.

  • Glad Scott was equally shocked at her less than over the top response.  At least when she does go back to her old ways you'll both be ready for it.
  • Glad she was better than expected! I think you're probably right in expecting advice everytime you see her from now on.?

I think you have a definite out in her not watching Pocket Pookums due to her disability! What can she say, "oh I'm fine", and then be admitting she shouldn't be getting that money? Nope!

  • I'm glad it wasn't a total disaster. That is weird that she kept saying "thank you" though. StepFIL said that to Rob when we announced. I thought it was odd too.

  • I'm glad it went well with your MIL, my monter in law cried (and not in a I'm happy for you way).. she kept saying yall aren't ready, are you sure?! I guess she was holding out that I wouldn't be staying around...
  • Thanks so much ladies I know I have been a teeny bit MIA lately. I still love having this board to come to, really!!!!!!

I spoke too soon, last night became a disaster when she called to tell dh she wanted to throw us a hall shower (with her disability money no doubt yet their house desperately needs a roof, and they have zero savings to speak of) and he didnt' tell her that we already told my sister that she could throw it at her house, which is perfect for a shower. We haven't fought like we did last night in a very long time, I felt it was the wedding all over again. I mean no matter how he breaks the news to her now it will fall on me, and I am sure I will hear rumors soon about her talking about me again. I have been trying to keep the argument out of my mind but it was not pretty and while I am not guilt free here, I seriously feel like I have a broken heart this morning.

Sorry for being so dramatic, I just really feel out of sorts today.

  • Why is she trying to plan a shower already anyway?? Good grief. She's like 4-5 months early.

Ugh I'm sorry the peace was so short-lived. Sad

  • :( I'm sorry Pookie. She's batshitcrazy. I'm sorry your DH couldn't tell her about your sister already wanting to throw the shower, that really would have helped. It will all work out, just keep reminding yourself you can't worry about other people anymore, you have a new #1 priority and they'll have to get over themselves!?
