Cleaning shower doors...

We have really hard water and my glass shower doors always have bad water spots.  My cleaning lady was a miracle worker and can get them crystal clean - unfortunately I had to cancel the cleaning service.  None of the products I have ever used have gotten them 100% clean.  Any suggestions?

Re: Cleaning shower doors...

  • spray vinegar diluted with water and scrub
  • The Real Simple cleaning guide I got for Christmas suggests to use some pledge once the doors are clean to help the hardwater/soap from staying on.

Do you wipe your doors after every use?  We have ALL glass doors and finds that this helps keep up before our weekly shower clean.

  • We have hard water too and when we first moved in we had a water softener but it quit working a couple of years ago and we haven?t replaced it yet.  But when it was working it seemed like the water spots were almost nonexistent.  I think I?ll try the Pledge tip the pp suggested.

  • I use a squeegee with a 50% vinegar solution.
  • I just moved into a house with glass shower and have the same problem.  I just read that you should wet some dryer sheets and that works wonders.  I'm going to try it.

  • I like to use the Mr Clean Magic Erasers that are for showers.  I'm not sure about 100% sparkling clean, but we always have a lot of soap scum and water stains on our glass and it really "erases" them. ;-)  Maybe a combination of using that first and then the solution others suggested would do the trick.
  • It's the harshest stuff ever, but it works miracles!  Greased Lightening - wear gloves and open windows!!!

  • we squeegee after whichever of us goes 2nd in the shower so the water doesn't have a chance to dry on the door.  During a particularly busy couple of weeks we got away from that, and it was a mess.

I tried the dryer sheet thing, the magic eraser, soap scum remover etc...nothing worked.

I finally donned kitchen gloves and went in there with lime away on a kitchen sponge.  wiped it on, wiped it off then washed with dishwashing liquid.  It's still not perfect, but it got it about 90% of the way there.

  • Head light restorer. My dad has used this on my shower doors and the sparkle after wards.
