Ever since we moved to our new house ( which I love), and our washer/dryer had to move away in the garage, laundry has become very... complex!
Let's see. We get undressed in the shower. Upstairs. This is where our dirty laundry baskets are (it's a double basket - to sort lights and darks)
Then, at one point I need to bring it downsairs to wash. And there comes the problem - since I obviously cannot wash lights AND darks together... emmm... how do I do that? Leave the dirty laundry downstairs till I run both loads? Put another dirty laundry basket downstairs?
?????
Getting undressed in the cold garage and run naked upstairs is not an option. But I feel like there's too much movement, if you see what I mean. Any suggestions?

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over!
You could toss your dirty clothes to the bottom of the stairs when you get undressed. Then you would only have to carry clean clothes upstairs.
I'm not sure I'm fully comprehending the issue, tho!!!
What was your previous set up?
We have one laundry basket in each bedroom closet. When it's time to do laundry we sort them all into delicates/lights/darks and put each load in a basket. Baskets are carried to the basement laundry room, first load goes in washer, second load goes in when the first load goes in the dryer. Clothes are folded, put back into the basket, and taken upstairs to be put away. Repeat until all clothes are clean and put away.
I think you may be overthinking this.
Have you ever lived in an apartment where you had to haul your laundry to another room/floor? I'd just pick up a laundry basket, throw your lights in and take them out to the garage and throw them in the washer. Then bring the basket back up with you and go grab the darks. Bring them out to the garage when you go to switch the lights to the dryer, and leave the basket in the garage until the lights are done in the dryer. Bring the basket with you to the garage when you take out the darks from the dryer.
I agree, though, that you're overthinking this (I realized as I just had to explain to someone how to do laundry.)
