Re: illness poll

  • My sister, mom, dad and I all had it over Christmas. Bro-in-law and other sister before Christmas.
  • Knock on wood, no stomach virus but we've had a lot of really nasty colds between the two of us.
  • We haven't been sick yet.  Why do you want to know?  I have been curious since last night.

  • Interesting.

I wanted to know because my husband got it. My son and I didn't. Shortly after my dad got it- but my mom and sisters didn't. My parents had two different sets of friends, and in both cases the man of the house got it, but no one else. My friend's husband and one of my dad's employees- same thing. I don't know a single woman or child who has contracted it, only men, which is odd. So I wanted to see if other people experienced the same.

Although some women and kids did get it, it seems from this poll that men were more likely to get it. I wonder what it is about this virus that seems more likely to hit men.

  • ... of the respondents who did have it hit their home, men got it 82% of the time, women got it 55% of the time. (the pecentages don't add up to 100 because some of the time both partners got it)

Completely stereotyping here, but I wonder if it's as simple as women (especially women with younger children) are more diligent about handwashing.  Or even we have quite a few women here at home with their kids and not active in the workforce right now, so fewer opportunities for exposure to the germs.

I know when a cold enters our house it's usually me who has it first - I commute on transit to a big office.  DH works from home.  My odds of interacting with a sick person are way higher then his.
