Bar Harbor, Maine- who honeymooned here?
Hi Ladies,
I remember that someone honeymooned in Maine after getting married this summer. Anyone remember who? DH and I are planning a one year anniversary trip to Maine this summer and I would love suggestions.
On that note, if anyone has recommendations for places to stay, things to do, or places to eat, please share!
Thanks!
Re: Bar Harbor, Maine- who honeymooned here?
It was me!!!! And we LOVED it! We would go back in a heartbeat!!!
We stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn. It was pricey but the view from our balcony was fantastic! On the ocean with sunrise views. There was a continental breakfast every morning. Not much selection from day to day, but it came with the price of the room and you could take stuff with you (fruit, bagels to snack on throughout the day).
Best dining: Stewman's Lobster Pound. Delicious lobster rolls and Steamer Clams in an outdoor dining experience.
There wasn't a bad restaurant there though, so enjoy all the food
Ice cream parlors are all over the town.
Must see: Acadia National Park We spent 2 days at the park. Day 1 was super foggy and we could hardly see anything. Took a walk around Bubble Pond and got some great pics. Went again on the weekend (much more crowded, but still enjoyable).
We ate lunch at Jordan Pond House then walked around the grounds. Parking is a hassle there especially on the weekend. And the wait was about an hour, so plan accordingly.
The view from Mt. Desert was incredible.
Thunder Hole (while very well known) was not as impressive as we were led to believe. Maybe if we had gone while there was a storm at sea, we would have enjoyed it more.
We spent entire days walking around the town and going in the shops. Things were pricedcheaply especially for a tourist town.
Best couple time: Couples massage at the spa at the Inn. Fantastic experience.
Things that we'd do differently
We took the whale watching cruise (on the big boat) on a day when the waves were 8-10 feet. Big mistake
. I didn't enjoy that trip at all.
The fishing trip was not fun for my husband, but he is an AVID fisher. I had fun. He was disappointed with the types of fish caught. The boat captain was knowledgable about the town.
Let me know if you have any other questions! I'm so jealous!!!
Yay, thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I remembered that whoever went there loved it. We are so excited!
We plan on camping in Acadia for 2 or 3 nights and then staying in town 2 nights. I have heard of that lobster restaurant, we will definitely be going there! Good to know that the park was more crowded on the weekend, however, I think we will still have to end up going then.
I may get in touch again as I plan more! Thanks for sharing!
