Eric Gower is one of my favorite foodies to take a lesson or two from... think Alton Brown but a little more "California". I want to be his friend, lol.
Here's a link to a page of his website with his online videos.

The finishing salts video is one of my favs...

We have 4 different finishing salts now (pink mountain something, red wine, homemade matcha, and homemade paprika). Our palates are still pretty amateur and we don't pick up on the flavors yet, however, we could immediately taste the differences between 'table salt', kosher, and sel gris. Sel gris is like the candy of the salt world. I prepped myself for that standard salty- pucker face when I tasted it for the first time, but instead it was very smooth and amazing!
Anyway, I hope y'all love Eric as much as I do ![]()

Amen Jena! lol.
When ever I have a thought of something new to try, I ALWAYS see if Alton has a recipe before I look anywhere else. I think I can honestly say I've never had an Alton recipe fail. And when you know exactly why your adding certain ingredients, it makes you so much more confident to start tweaking things on your own without fear of utter destruction!
Eric is more of the hippie of the food-science-and-culture world. I enjoy him for some general earthy food concepts.
But yes, forever hail lord Alton.
This, and laughed. out. loud!
We're seriously contemplating getting rid of cable tv. Ross needs to redo the wireless (lost the pass code). If I can get online with the tv (wii) (hulu, netflix, etc), then we don't really need cable tv. One of the two things I will miss is the Food Network (the other being Criminal Minds!! I can't find it online).

My 14-year-old son has his eye on being a Cordon Bleu chef some day. He has several Alton Brown cookbooks and thinks Alton Brown is almost a deity, which is cool with me, because I love him, too.
My son, however, had never seen finishing salts until now. He is currently doing some bizarre little dance and begging for a set of his own to try out. Thanks, Em! lol
