So our first anniversary is this coming weekend. We've been in negotiations for our first house for the past couple of months & by "we've" I mean, I have been doing all the work. Last night my husband mentioned that he couldn't believe that it has been a year already & that he's excited about the gift that he's getting. Crap. I haven't given any thought whatsoever to anniversary gifts because I've been neck deep in house stuff. I did order a small replica of our wedding cake (I couldn't bear to eat year old cake, but kudos to anyone who's doing that or who did that.) for Sunday, but that's it. Now I feel absolutely horrible because I haven't gotten him anything. I was thinking about Blackhawks tickets...actually, I thought about Bears/Packers tickets, but those babies are upwards of $500 a piece. I've never been to a hockey game before & he grew up playing hockey, so I thought it would be an awesome gift (not to mention they'd be paper tickets). There are tickets starting at $55 a piece, which is doable, but they're upper level seats. Do you think that nosebleed seats would be ok? I did find closer seats, level 1 seats, but they're almost $200 a piece...ouch. What do you guys think I should do, or is there something else that I could get him?

Re: Big Trouble
As a Chicagoan, I strongly advise you against buying hockey tickets for this Sunday! He'll want to watch the Bears beat the Packers, for sure. I think Hawks tickets are a great idea - no worries on nosebleed seats, as CCH said you'll be watching the screen most of the time anyway. I'm not too into hockey (probably because the old Hawks GM refused to televise the games for so many damn years) so I don't know who our rivals are! But regardless, it's a fun date and gift - go for it!

ah, gotcha. i thought you said he told you he was excited for his gift, therefore meaning he was expecting one.
the bears game is at 3pm, the hockey game at 1130, so technically it could be done (game will end about 2pm), but it'd be tight and prob too crammed for a relaxing anniversary.
i suggest:
2/20 vs pittsburgh (i can't not love my team!)
3/4 vs. hurricanes
3/28 vs. wings
4/10 vs. wings--this is the hawks last home game. i can't say for sure, but typically the last home game is a fun one. i know the pens use the game to thank their fans and do their whole giving away the shirts off their backs deal (they raffle off their jerseys after the game and take their game jersey off to give it to the winner, sign it and take a picture with them).
the hawks appear to be playing mostly away games for the remainder of the season. any game would be good for your DH, since he likes hockey, i just picked the teams that i would personally pay to go see. the game vs. the ducks would be next on the list, but the rest (i.e., panthers, wild, sharks, etc) aren't really teams i care to pay to see. but that's just us really. and if it came down to it, we would rather see any match up than none at all!
Ditto pretty much what everyone else said. Nosebleeds would be totally fine, it's the though the counts and spending a little over $100 for tickets total is a lot nicer than spending $400 for tickets, IMO.
We did lotto tickets as our paper gifts to each other.
