So the NAACP can kiss his butt, he won't be held hostage by special interest groups, or attend their silly MLKJ celebration. He had other plans.
Well, turns out the other plans for today were beholden to another special interest group.
I was hoping that when he said no special interests that he would not attend anything that was not sponsored by the government, as anyone else would be a special interest group.
LePage attends anti-abortion rally in Augusta The Associated PressAUGUSTA ? Organizers of an annual anti-abortion rally and march say they are invigorated that Maine has a governor who is publicly opposed to abortion. The Hands Around the Capitol rally in Augusta is held each year to recognize and mourn the anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe vs. Wade decision, which legalized abortion 38 years ago. At least several hundred people attended today's event in the freezing weather, which included a Mass, a prayer service, a rally and a march before culminating with a human chain around the Capitol building. Many carried "Stop Abortion" signs. A bell on the grounds was tolled. Teresa McCann-Tumidajski said her group, the Maine Right to Life Committee, is happy to have a governor in their corner. Gov. Paul LePage, a Republican, attended the event; he did not speak. McCann-Tumidajski said the governor's daughter spoke at her group's annual convention last fall. LePage's predecessor, two-term Democrat John Baldacci, was in favor of abortion rights.
Re: *Politics Related* LePage
Funny, the first thing that run through my head was also "What an a$$h0le."
It's fine to hold whatever beliefs sacred that you want- and I'm sure there are plenty of people in the state that agree with whatever nonsense he spews- but the hypocrisy (sp?) is enough to make me want to scream.
I frigging hate politics.
Not defending him but... The anti-abortion rally and the MLKJ celebration are on two separate days, I believe. His "other" plans for missing the MLKJ celebration (on Monday) are to actually attend a funeral of a ME state police officer.
Yeah, I don't really get how NAACP is special interest yet an anti-abortion group isn't though. This guy really needs to watch what comes out of his mouth.
I had heard that he was invited to two MLKJ events, one for today and one for tomorrow, but both sponsored by NAACP and in different towns, so showing up to one would have been sufficient, if a person was interested, but maybe I am not remembering correctly.
Oh OK, you probably know better than I do. I don't keep up too much with politics. I get too annoyed with most of the crap that goes on. LOL
MH and have talked about at least moving out of state the next time we move.
Ugh this.
News this morning said he decided on Friday/Saturday to attend a MLKJ breakfast in Waterville this morning (I don't know who sponsored it), but states that the decision had nothing to do with the backlash and he is all done discussing the issue.
He is also willing to meet with members of the NAACP, if they wish, to discuss issues that effect all Mainers.
This man needs a press secretary if ever a politician needed one.
