s/o QOTD: Coffee um... makers: What do you do with your grounds?

I used to put ours down the disposal, but DH was convinced I was tearing the machine up. So he puts them in the garbage, but in a plastic bag so that he doesn't have to smell the wet grounds. I just think that's overkill, personally.

Re: s/o QOTD: Coffee um... makers: What do you do with your grounds?

  • i compost them, filters and all. i use the unbleached brown paper ones. DP you can just throw the grounds into your garden beds, it's great for them!

  • I just toss them in the trash with the filter.  I've never noticed the smell, but we're all coffee drinkers here.. well, except B :)

  • Dump it in the trash and rinse the rest down the drain. I don't find that smell offensive plus we take out our trash almost every day anyway.

This.  DH doesn't drink coffee, but he likes the smell so it doesn't bother him.

  • If I didn't use K-cups I would compost them.  This is my only draw back to the Keurig, it's not environmentally friendly at all.  If I didn't have hippy dippy tendencies, I would just throw it in the trash, the smell doesn't bother me at all.

  • When we do make coffee we dump them in the trash. My mom composts her coffee grounds.

  • I also put them down the disposal. I wonder if it really does hurt it. Off to google.
