Throw some common interview questions my way

I get all stuttery when I have to come up with an answer off the top of my head in front of a panel of interviewers so I want to have answers prepared and memorized. What are some common questions that get asked? Bonus points in you're in a social service type position.

(I have the real basics down, like "Why do you want to work here" or "Why did you leave your last position" or "Are you a team player", and crap like that.)

Sorry, it's been so long since I've interviewed, but I find monster usually has some great resources.  I can remember questions asking for examples.  Tell us about a time when you had to ..... how did you you handle it? that kind of thing.

  • Oh, that's fabulous. The job I'm interviewing for next (which I REALLY REALLY want) apparently does behavioural interviewing.I wasn't even entirely sure what that meant but I found that Monster has a list of behavioural questions, so now I'm preparing a list of previous experiences that could tie into a number of questions.

    Thank you :)

  • One question I discovered (possibly on Workopolis?) was: What's you're one weakness?  Well, an easy way to get past that and not to lie, and something that the interviewers can't rebut - is a personal weakness - i.e. chocolate.  So if you answer: chocolate, then that's something they can't rebut, and you could elaborate on how chocolate (or nanaimo bars Wink) will do you in.  For me - it's scrapbooking.  Hope this helps and good luck!

  • I've actually found a better way to answer the weakness question is to respond with an actual weakness but also a plan for how you compensate.  I'm a perfectionist and detail orientented.  Meaning I want to collect as much information as I can to have the best/right answer every time.  But I also know that isn't always possible or even required so I set myself time limits to gather information, organize it and then send out a first draft for comments - even if I don't feel it's done, something is usually good enough to get a team talking/providing input and that's what is really important.

It's impossible not to have weaknesses, the key is to be self aware enough to know what yours are, how they impact your work and what you can do to over come them or work around them.

  • In almost every interview I have been in they have asked me:

Tell us of a experience you had with a difficult client and/or co-worker and how you dealt with it.
