Do you give out your info to stores when making returns?
I had to return a bunch of stuff to Bath and Body today, and I don't like giving out my phone number/address if it isn't necessary. We get enough junk mail as it is. She processed my return and when I wouldn't give out my info she was at a loss, I asked what it was for and she couldn't answer, I signed my name and went on my way, she was shocked that I wouldn't give out my info.
Do you give out your info?

The way life should be-
Re: Do you give out your info to stores when making returns?
I think we talked about this once before. It depends on the store and I have no rhyme or reason to which stores I do and which I don't, but when I don't want to give it out I write "unlisted."
Stores like Target keep track of how many times you make a return and others like Bath and Body Works ask for it, but don't really keep track. Since I used to work at BBW not long ago, I will tell you a little more detail
We had many people who didn't want to give out their info and we just told them to put unlisted down and that was that. The return slips go into a drawer by the POS station. At the end of the night they get moved to a locked box in the back and are held onto for 3-6 months (depending on when the shredding company comes) and then are shredded.
The slips are held onto for a period of time in case you want to make a dispute about a return or exchange and the store has a copy with your signature if needed to settle the dispute. Only once in 2.5 years had I needed to go back into those receipts and it was just to clarify how the transactions was tendered (cash vs debit vs credit).
So moral of the story, write unlisted but make sure you sign, only so you can verify that it was your signature if needed in the future!
I did write unlisted, but the girl didn't think I could write that for my address. I did anyways and told her that if she couldn't tell me what it was for, then I wasn't providing my address. It was all said nicely and I think she was newish so a little nervous maybe?

Yeah it sounds like she was definitely new then, because seriously all they do is sit in a box until a few months later when they are shredded, they aren't entered or logged anywhere.
If she's never closed, or if she's never helped the managers during closing, then she probably wouldn't know.
