Nate's 12 month checkup (Edit: PIP)

He just had a growth spurt and has been so active lately that his weight dropped under the percentile mark it had always been at. The Dr was moderately concerned - well more like, "we may need to be concerned in the future if he drops more percentiles." But anyway, he's 22 lbs (25th-50th) and 30 in (50th-75th). We could turn his carseat around at this point, but I want to keep him rear facing for as long as possible.

Dr was impressed that he eats all meals with us. And she was pleased that he says Mama and Daddy, said Elmo once, and regularly signs milk and more. She said all of that counts as vocabulary, so he has a vocab of 5 words.

He got MMR, varicella, and Hep A vaccines, plus they drew blood to check for anemia and lead exposure (routine). The drawing blood was the worst part because it lasted for soooooo long.

So we came home, he drank some milk, and he's been sleeping. He didn't get to go down for his morning nap until it was time to wake up from his morning nap (confusing?). It's going to be a weird day, but glad that torture is over for now.

  • What a handsome little man!! Such a smart boy, too. Did he cry when he got his shots/blood drawn?

Yes, and he fought, too. I was holding him in my lap with both arms around him to keep his arms still, and his feet tucked between my legs, which he eventually worked free.

  • I've heard that the shots just get harder as they get older because they get stronger!

  • Glad he's healthy and the torture is over! The picture is so cute, he reminds me of Ralphie's little brother in A Christmas Story when he's all bundled up: "I can't put my arms down!"
  • The one-year shots sucked, but I think JJ only got one or two more shots after that, and then we're done until 4. Thank goodness. :)

    Glad everything went OK though!

It is like that! I sit him on the floor in his coat, and he falls right over. He can't pick himself up again, he just flops around. And that's as far as he can lower his arms in the picture.

  • He does look super cute all bundled up!

How much did he drop in weight percentile? Brock just had his 9 month appointment and dropped his weight percentile too but the dr. wasn't concerned because he's "so mobile and active" for his age. Just curious at what point he may be concerned. FWIW, Brock is 18lbs 1 oz (15%) and 28 1/2 in (50%).

  • He was 90th/95th at birth, 75th at 3 months, but only 50th by 9 months. Now he's just under 50th, so continuing to drop, but less drastically. She said if his height had also dropped, she would be concerned now, but his height percentile is rising. Also cause for concern would be if he continues dropping weight percentile between now and 15 months. Maybe he's not getting enough calories or not enough nutrients, but could be that he just comes from skinny genes.
