Bored with dinner...

I feel like we have been eating the same things week after week and it's getting boring.

So, what is your go-to recipe site or any favorite recipes you wanna pass on?

ETA: We are open to all styles and I have a 3 year old slow cooker I've been dying to use.

Re: Bored with dinner...

  • I always go to allrecipes.com, my mom's recipe box, or a coworker of mine loves cooking, so he's always good to talk to. What are you hungry for? If it's anything in particular, I can look through my recipe books and see if there's anything that'll get you started.
  • We just made crock pot pulled pork this week and it was so good and so easy.

    2-3 lb pork loin

    12oz bottle of rootbeer

    18oz bottle of bbq sauce

Add pork to crockpot and cover with rootbeer. Cook on low for 6-7 hours. When done drain well and shred the pork. Then add the bbq sauce. Serve on buns.

I am telling you it was so good!

  • Montana stole one of mine :)

Dinner in 10 minutes:  A good frozen ravioli and pesto sauce.  I try to keep a stock of good pasta things in the freezer (ravioli, tortellini, perogies) for when we're too tired to cook or leave the house.  I like to tell myself it's better for us than boxed mac and cheese though we sometimes stoop to that level on occasion, lol.

If you have 5 more minutes, cook up a few pieces of bacon, crumble.  Saute a bag of spinach.  Toss bacon, spinach, bit of olive oil and a splash of lemon juice with ravioli.  amazing.

     Dinner in 30-45 minutes:

Apricot Curry Coconut Chicken:  Cut up 1lb chicken breast into like 'big chicken finger' size.  Mix half a jar of apricot jam, 1/4 cup ish of mustard, and 1 tbs curry.  Coat chicken well.  Then roll in coconut (and/or chopped pecans).  Bake for 30 minutes at 350.

Dinner in 45min to an hour:

    - Baked Mac and cheese (Alton Brown, we halve the recipe and still have plenty of leftovers) with chicken and broccoli added

  • I wouldn't call them go to sites yet but I've recently found some blogs that I like...Annie'sEats, Pioneer Woman, Carrie's Sweet Life, PreventionRd, and Stephanie Cooks are all really good from what I've looked at so far.  A lot of them make things from scratch more than from prepackaged items (ie no cake mix, or home canned veggies) which is one of my goals for this year, to get away from prepackaged food so much.  Hope that helps!

  • for your crock pot there are Crock Pot Blog and Crock Pot 365 that both have some really good recipes...I haven't made a lot of them but I will be revisiting them frequently this year in my goals of making new recipes every week and eating healthier...

  • I know the feeling!  Our goal for 2011 is for DH to try a new food every week (he's a VERY picky eater) and for me to try a new recipe at least once every 2 weeks, but recently I've been so excited I've been making new things all the time.

    allrecipes.com is my go-to site.

And dinners we eat often, although they're definitely not all healthy:

-tortellini w/alfredo, peas and diced ham (proscuitto it it's on sale)

-baked potato casserole with cheese, ham, broccoli

-teryaki marinated pork w/pineapple, frozen veggies (corn, peas, carrots), and brown rice

    -ground turkey spaghetti

-pulled pork (I use a recipe pretty much the same as Montana)

-homemade mac and cheese w/chicken and broccoli

    -chicken parmesan

    -beef stew

-ground turkey w/cheeseburger hamburger helper, add broccoli and tomato

-pigs in a blanket (hotdog slice in middle with 1/2 piece of American cheese, wrapped in crescent)

-Pepperoni "poppers" - crescent roll w/mozz. cheese, pepperoni, and spoonful marina, place 2nd roll dough on top and pinch on sides for pocket, bake, serve with marinara.

PS-Welcome to the board!  We are date-twins!  Did your guys wear brown tuxes? It looks like they may have...ours did!
