Re: s/o off illness poll - flu shots

  • I did not get it, and I got the flu 2 weeks ago - BAD.  It's all upper respiratory and knocks you completely off your feet - you are dizzy, can't breathe, no energy, the usual.  I got sick on a Saturday and wasn't well until the following Saturday - and even then I wasn't feeling great.  I missed an entire week of work, which for me is insane, I rarely even miss one day when I'm ill!  Get the shot if you can!

  • the flu shot only covers you for the top 20 or so strains of the flu. And it takes about 10 days to be effective.

I got the shot, and 3 days later I had the flu. I didn't get it early enough. :(

  • I spend most of my day working with people, so I'll take any help I can get to not be sick.
  • I've never had a flu shot in my life.  Neither has my DH or either of my kids.

  • I reacted horribly to the flu shot in my teens so I have never had it again.

I haven't had the flu for over ten years.

I have had 24 hours colds about 2 times in the last five years. This might have something to do with the fact that I take oil of oregano droplets and bee propolis during the cold/flu season.

  • I've never had the flu shot and have only ever had the actual flu (as opposed to a cold) once. I understand why some people get the shot, and I think it's a personal choice that everyone needs to make for themselves, but it's not the right choice for me.

Me neither. Except last year we did all get the H1N1 shot. I was very pregnant and DS was only 1, so we were both high risk, and DH got it too. But in terms of regular flu shot I never got it growing up and am not sure I'll get it in the future. Who knows.

I got H1N1 before the pregnancy safe shot was available, so I didn't need the shot.
