You haven't been around recently and I don't see you on FB. Just wondering how things are going with your little boy. Hope all is well and that you've all settled in. Keep us updated. I am hoping the best for you guys.

Re: **KatieRanck**

  • I know I haven't been on the boards, realized how little time I have to be online when I am home and haven't been on since before christmas. It is sad that I have more time during the day. I have FB on my phone, so a little bit more there.

LB is doing well. We are finding that he is having normal toddler issues; teething, not wanting to eat, and learning how to be gentle around our animals.

Guarded optimism is what we are holding onto at this point and perhaps he will become a more permanent part of our family sometime this year.

  • Oh good - I am glad to hear that he's settling in and giving you the normal toddler stuff! :) I hope things continue to move in the right direction for your family.

  • Court is scheduled for next month so we are doing what we can in the meantime.

I am still learning that children will only eat when they are hungry and naps very essential for this little boy. Still trying to find out what to do when he bites and hits when he is upset.

  • Ah yes, biting and hitting. Fun times. I am glad to say that biting was a problem for us for 2 weeks or so but hitting has been something we have battled for well over a year. Ugh. Drives me bananas!

Whatever you are doing, be consistent. Make sure you respond each and every single time. And just stick with it. I know how incredibly frustrating it is, believe you me. But just keep consistent and he will learn that biting and hitting won't get him what he wants.

How are his language skills? Sometimes biting and hitting can be made worse if a child is struggling to communicate. If that's an issue for him you might consider some basic sign language if he doesn't already have some.

And I hear ya about the naps. I know some people are pretty laissez faire about nap schedule but I am a stickler for naps. They make all the difference for us.

So there is my unsolicited advice. But everything you've mentioned sounds pretty typical to me so that's good news! Keep at mama! You're doing a great job!
