HTT

So  I heard on the news the other night that Verizon is ending it's phone upgrade program when you renew your contract every 2 years. I'm seriously pissed about this. I am not the type of person who uses my phone for anything other than calling and texting, and at that, I only have a 250 texts per month plan.

Then I got to thinking that maybe I am in the minority in this and people upgrade their phone all the time anyway so the program wasn't really that relevant anymore. So, clicky poll.

Re: HTT

  • I don't ever upgrade my phone when it's not free and/or needed.  However, that usually falls around the time I would renew my contract anyway.  If they are cancelling the program, what are they doing?  Do you have to pay for a new phone or some crap like that?

  • I usually replace my phone when I break it.  I try and make them last a LONG time, though I tend to break phones pretty easily.

  • I chose every two years with renewing the contract, but both of our phones broke before our contract was up for renewal this time, so we bought unlocked phones mid-contract from Wal-Mart.

    This exactly!!

My phone died on Saturday, so Sunday went to the verizon store and got a new phone, I knew I was due for the upgrade, and I thought it would be a freebie, but it wasn't.  But still not a big deal because I only paid $50 for the new phone after the rebate.

  • This pisses me off mightily. While I have skipped upgrades here and there in the past, I now carry a phone that requires updated technology. So you're telling me that in 1.5 years, I either have to fight through trying to use new technology (because you know they're always changing software) on an out of date phone or spend $500+ on a new one?! This phone cost $200 even WITH the upgrade credit. That's bull.

  • We're Verizon customers, but we will probably be switching to AT&T because of this. And AT&T gets wayyy better service in our area. We usually upgrade every 2 years, but we always get whatever is free. I will never pay $100+ for a new phone that will be out of date in a matter of months.

Word for word, the exact way I feel, except insert US Cellular in there.
