One Year Anniversary Plans?
Okay I may be totally jumping the gun here, but I'm a planner, and things are cheaper when booked ahead of time.
Does anyone have plans yet for their one year anniversary?
We (and be we, I mean I) were thinking Hawaii, a cruise (though we've been on 4, including 1 on the Honeymoon) or Disneyworld - which are all places we want to go before we start having kids.
But the thing is, they cost money...and lots of it.
Anywho, has anyone put thought into this yet? What are your plans?
Re: One Year Anniversary Plans?
Ha, I started planning this while we were on our honeymoon! Like you, I'm a planner, and I like to have something to look forward to all throughout the year. But it's going to depend on whether or not Alan is working, since he's due to be laid off some time after August.
Barring unemployment, though, we're thinking of a trip to CA to go to San Francisco and wine country. We'd also like to travel around Europe some more before we have a kid - England/Ireland (I've been to Ireland for work, but he's never been and I would like to see more of the country), Spain, and maybe Greece. We're thinking of Hawaii for either a 5 year or 10 year anniversary trip.
We wanted to do a small trip for our one year anniversary, but we are being forced to go on a rather expensive family vacation this summer so it might not be feasible. Someday I will have a VENT post related to this vacation, it just hasn't bubbled over yet....
If we do find a way to take a small trip we will probably go to the Boston area (my aunt & uncle live in Ipswich so we have a free place to stay) or to Disney (I have a cousin who works there and can get us into the parks for FREE!).
We have plans (like you, by we I mean I'm working on them) and we've had them before the wedding, haha, that's what I planner I am.
My bestie from college is getting married in West Palm Beach, FL (and I'm in the wedding) 6 days after our anniversary and since we'll already be paying for the flight, we'll take a few days extra of vacation and spend some time in FL relaxin for our anniversary.
Originally we thought about the Keys since neither of us has been and it's on DH's list of places to visit...but after reading some reviews, I'm not so sure. Either way, we'll be celebrating somewhere in FL!

We won't know until June what DH's "vacation" time looks like for the fall (it's actually forced time off, I don't mind, but they are potentially 're-doing' the system and we won't have a clue what the time off will look like if there is any till summer).
We are really hoping for a 2 week Europe trip in September (Paris, Madrid, and Berlin)... it will be our anniversary trip, but September weather is more often better in Europe. Fingers crossed!
Well, everything is up in the air for us. I've mentioned I might be in school next year (with any luck). Basically, I'm finishing up my masters, which I've been doing part time for a few years. I just have to take my exams in April. I've applied to a bunch of PhD programs, which means, depending where/if I get in, we could stay in SoCal or move to NC or Boston. It also means we have to save money for a move that may or may not happen. And we have no idea where we'll be living come August/September, or what DH's job situation will be.
BUT I would like to at least go away for a long weekend. If we're in Boston, maybe Portland, ME or the mountains. If we're in NC, maybe Asheville or Gatlinburg. If I'm in school, I'll probably have 10/10 off, because it's Columbus Day, but won't be able to take much more vacation than that.

We have started talking about doing something but we aren't sure what. I think it will all depend on Logan and how good of a toddler she is at that point..lol
A) Good luck getting into a program! I know you will, you smart thing.
C) I'll be in school, so an actual anniversary trip is unlikely. I as talking to Montana about this recently... which anniversary are you going to celebrate? Our anniversary as a couple is June 2nd (he proposed on our 5th anniversary), and then the wedding anniversary is October 7th.... Do you just stop celebrating the couple anniversary?? We always go to Bar Harbor for a couple of days (except this past June, when my wh0re of a floor manager scheduled Ross to work, even though I specifically wrote in the request off book that it was our 6th anniversary... I got the day off, Ross closed. I hate that woman) for the June anniversary... so I think we'll do that still. Beginning of June the seasonal rates haven't gone up, and the weather is nice. October will still be "in season," and can be cold. So maybe 3 days 2 nights in June, and just a day trip in October. (I say this is what we'll do, but we haven't actually talked about it :P)

Jena, my brother and his girlfriend go to Bar Harbor/Acadia every year, and they love it. It looks gorgeous.
And Mery, I have to agree with Jena about Portland - the Old Port is fun, but IMO there's nothing there worth going to when there are so many similar-but-better places in the MA/NH area. (Newburyport, for example, which is my go-to spot for a weekend get-away.) Though if you do move here and your husband is a Sox fan (or even a baseball fan) I highly recommend a day trip there for a Sea Dogs (the Sox Double A team) game followed by dinner/drinks in the Old Port - it's so much less hassle than going to Fenway, even though it's an hour away. And it's way fun.
We have a bunch of traveling planned for various weddings this year so we will probably play it by ear, but I truthfully don't see an anniversary trip in our future for this year. We will probably have a nice dinner at the restaurant where Nick proposed and have some champagne and that's it. Probably some sexy time too
Hopefully we will get up to NYC sometime around the end of the year. I would love to see some of my college friends and maybe do a gtg.
