Re: What do you do with recycling?

  • The only thing we can recycle here is cans and bottles.

I just collect them in a small trash bin under the sink. When it gets full I dump it in the bigger bin the garage. When that bin is full I take it to the recycling center.

  • We have a lot of recycling. Our town's recycling bins are bigger than the trashcans. For us, it's most practical to have a second trash can for recycling. We keep it in our pantry.

  • I have a cloth laundry hamper that has 3 "sorter" sections.

    1 has cardboard/thick paper

    1 for plastic

1 for aluminum/glass (we don't get too much of these, so they are "together" here).

  • We have something similar to this:

When it gets full we dump it in the big can in the garage and it's picked up every Monday.

  • One trash can in the pantry for bottles, cans, etc and one small cardboard box next to it for collecting paper and broken down boxes (cereal, etc.). All of it gets dumped into one pickup bin for trash day.

  • We have a smaller can next to our trash can.
  • We leave the large bin in the garage, just outside our door (it's off the kitchen).  We throw everything into that bin.

In our office, we have a tray to collect paper to recycle.  When it gets full, DH empties it into the big bin.

  • It sits on the counter or by the back door until Dh or I take out to the big bin.  It's super annoying I need to buy some sort of containor for the kitchen but it won't be "hidden" as I would like we don't have much cabinet space at all :(

  • We have a small waste basket near our trash can. When it gets full, we take it out to our outdoor recycling bins. We recycle paper, glass, metal, plastic, containers, etc.

  • We have two large plastic shopping bags (they're actually the ones from Whole Foods) that sit on the floor of our small pantry.  One is for paper, the other is for glass/plastic.  We keep the actual recycling bins outside next to our garbage can which is in our driveway next to our deck.  We just take the bags outside to empty into the bins when they get full (usually only have to do this 1-2 times per week)
  • I put it right outside into the bin. Ideally, i'd love to get one of those pull out shelves w/the 2 bins, and use one for trash and the other for recycling.

We recycle everything possible and hardly have any trash.

Ditto this. Our county just went to 'streamlined' recycling where we put all things together. Once the cans are filled inside I dump them into the large cans out back on the deck. Then the large cans go out once per week.

  • We have the SimpleHuman trash/recycling combo can. LOVE having it all in one place with the trash! When they fill up, they get emptied into the larger can in the garage.
