Birth Order and Relationships

I have been learning more about birth order recently, and I'm curious....

Are you a first born, middle child or last born?

How about your H?

Re: Birth Order and Relationships

  • Oh, and if there is more than a 5 year difference between you and a sibling it starts over. So, if you're the 2nd born but your older sister is 7 years old than you then you're a first born.
  • I am the oldest of four. Dh is the youngest.

  • I am the younger of two (by 2 years).

H is the oldest of 3 (by almost 2 years).

  • I am the oldest of 2 (my sister is 8 yrs younger), and DH is the youngest of 2 (his sister is 3 yrs older).
  • I'm the oldest of 4. My sisters are 4 and 6 years younger than me and my brother is 13 years younger.

H is the youngest of 2. His sister is 3 years older.

  • H and I are both the oldest children in our families.
  • I am the oldest of two (in the family I was raised in - I also have 3 other siblings that I was not raised with, the youngest of whom is 14 years younger than me).  H is the oldest of 5.  His youngest brother is almost 13 years younger than him.
  • The author of this book I'm reading goes into detail about the characteristics of the different birth orders. First borns tend to be organized, leaders, bossy, etc. Middle children tend to go with the flow and be more laid back. Last borns tend to be the comedians, usually a little spoiled, attention seeking, etc.

Typically, people marry someone of another birth order.

I'm a first born, DH is a middle child. It would have been a disaster for me to marry another first born, for me personally.

I don't know. I just thought it was all kind of interesting and I was just curious.

  • I am a first born. H is the youngest of three.

  • I am curious about birth order as well - interesting info out there.

I am an only and DH is the oldest of 3.

  • I am the middle. My brother is 4 years older and my sister is 4 years younger.

C is the baby; but technically the oldest since there is 15 years between him and his brother.

  • I have always been interested in birth order because of my messed up family lol. I am the middle child, but because my sister is 7 yrs older I am the first child. And I have attributes of both middle/first. DH is the oldest in his family.

I also wanna know how these can change with step/half siblings. My SS is definitely baby and so is spoiled/attention seeking with his mom, but at our house he is middle child now. Wonder if that'll help change his behavioral issues...fingers crossed.

  • I am the first born (my brother is two years younger than me) and DH is the first born as well (his sister is four years younger than him).

It is interesting because DH and I are text book first borns and our siblings are text book babies.

  • I'm a first-born. Of my three serious relationships, one was the youngest of two, one an only, and one a first-born of three.

I can see how having two first-borns in a relationship may get sticky. Then again, I know I got annoyed at the "baby" part of the youngest.

    It's all a crapshoot.

  • I am the youngest of 2 (My brother is a little less than 2 years older)

DH is the oldest of 2 (his brother is 5 years younger)

  • I consider myself the middle child but since I have older twin siblings and a younger sister we don't really have a first or middle. Just a last.

My H is the youngest in his family.

  • I'm the oldest by 16 months. H is the oldest by almost four years.

H's sister is text book youngest. My sister kinda is, too, but she's not spoiled. Just loud and a little comedic.

H and I are just about text book oldest kids - I'm more of a leader and stubborn than he is though.

  • We're both first born. I'm a "typical" first born, DH is not.
  • I love birth order studies!

I'm a first born, the oldest of three.

DH is the youngest of two.

We totally fit the stereotypes, too Wink

ETA: I can actually fall in to the only child category, too, due to the sibling spacing in my family.

  • I am an only (first born) and DH is the youngest of 3.  I find it interesting how often this combination is popping up!
