Sweater problem

I wear sweaters a lot.  Like, just about every day.  On just about every sweater I own, at some point or another, I end up with a hole in a seam somewhere.  It's not hard to fix, and it's really not  big deal, but what am I doing that causes this?

I don't normally hang my sweaters, I fold them and put them on a shelf.  However, I do admit to the following:

1.  Unless the tag specifically says not to, I tend to just wash the sweaters and put them in the dryer with the rest of my clothes.  I don't really wear wool (with the exception of what I'm wearing today), and the majority of my sweaters are cotton.

2.  Most of my sweaters were not expensive (Target, Old Navy, and the like).    I have never had a problem with holes in any place other than seams, and I don't keep the sweaters that long.  Most of the time, I spill something on them that permanently stains them, so that's why I stop wearing them.

Any ideas?

Re: Sweater problem

  • All of my ON/Target sweaters get holes in them. If I don't go Gap quality or higher, I have this issue. Just from wear and tear/washing, etc. It's frustrating! I think it's just stitch quality. (I know that Old Navy and Gap are the same company, but I can tell a difference in quality/fit between the two.)

  • Agree w/ Melissa here. I stopped buying Old Navy sweaters for this reason.

  • I haven't had that problem with my sweaters - and they are definitely cheap - but I dry all of them flat. Tags annoy me, so I cut them out, and I can't remember which of my sweaters can be dried and which can't.
