Re: Rachel

  • It's pretty much done! We finally put our mission/vision/core values/strategies into words yesterday, which seem like things that should have been done first. I guess we had them in mind all along, but hadn't written them out yet. We also came up with a name: Maisha Kamili, which means Full Life. We have a timeline sketched out for how long it will take us to set up once we get to Kenya. The budget is still incomplete because there are some things that we just don't know what they cost. But, I think it could be presented as-is at this point! Smile

  • That is so exciting! Congratulations! Articulating mission/vision/core values and strategies is not easy- people get paid good money to moderate discussions like that for companies. It still blows my mind how much of a reality this is!

  • I know! I get anxious about it sometimes - like are we really, really ready? Rodgers' nephew (George) is a banker and when Rodgers told him that we are looking to put these plans in motion soon, he started looking at houses that are for sale! He said that if he finds a good one, he's going to buy it (probably the bank will), and we can pay him back when we get there. Oh my life. I don't think I'm *that* ready yet! On the other hand, since George knows what we're looking for, if he were able to buy a place before we get there, that would make the transition that much simpler.

  • I would be totally flipping out. When we made plans to move back to Iowa I was overwhelmed- and that was moving back to a place I had lived before.  That is really fortunate that you have some of Rodgers' family that is able to help out.
