Have to share my love with of my new couches :)

Hubby and I went to Bob's tonight, sat on every single couch there, and decided on these

 http://www.mybobs.com/Rowley.aspx

I was so excited, I dance to the car I swear. I have to share my joy, I don't think DH is excited as me. We have these hand me down couches right now, that were white as paper, with these hideous huge leave prints on them, so we threw some slipcovers on them. Which are awful, I cannot express how much I hate re-tucking them every time someone sits down. I resorted to sitting on the floor sometimes because I did not want to re-tuck the slipcovers. But no more tucking, we are now a tuck-free home! Thank you jesus and Bob's Discount Furniture! :)

Anyone have anything they are excited about getting and would like to share their joy? ;)

Re: Have to share my love with of my new couches :)

  • They are cute, I just wish you luck with the quality. A good friend bought a couch from Bobs and has been fighting with them for two years over the fact that they started falling apart about two months after they bought them. : (

  • Nice. What accent colors are you going with?

We have a brown couch and it's microfiber to boot. It has held up beautifully over the years. We're talking, what- 10 foster dogs, including 3 puppies.

  • Oh no really? We have gotten our end table and dresser from them and we love them. We also got the "goof proof plan" which is a 5 year warranty and covers, spills, rips, stains, if my dogs pee on them (thank GOD), and tons of other stuff. We shall see! It was a good price, so hopefully it will work out. :)
  • We went with the tan color. We have alot of tan, brown, and some green accents in our living room but I wanted a lighter color in case I ever changed the paint or the colors in the room. Tan is pretty neutral. I'm just thankful I have no more slipcovers, biggest waste of time and money.
  • I like the shape of those.  Bob's definitely doesn't have the best quality, but hopefully they'll hold up for you.

I remember that excitement over getting new furniture--one of the first moments I had to face that I'm an "adult," haha!

Oh yes, we bought our house in April, and really didnt have anything to move in with except a bed and a few TV stands. We have a hand me down table as well, that will need to be leaving ASAP because it is 40 years old. Beautiful table, just falling to pieces.

As for the quality, I'm hoping they will hold up for a while. We still have two young dogs that are not 100% house broken and 1 who is teething, so they couches should be good for now ;)

I get a kick out of you having "a few TV stands" and a bed, haha!  We moved x-country to be here and sold pretty much everything since the apartment furniture wasn't worth keeping.  For the first couple of weeks, all we had in the new house were a folding table and two folding chairs (all borrowed from my family so they weren't even ours!), plus a bed.  It was pretty sad.

  • Congratulations on your purchase! It's so exciting to get new, big things! We've had our couch from Jordan's for about 5 years, and last winter one of the foster dogs ripped a big hole in one of the cushions, so we desperately need a new couch but we still haven't gotten around to getting one (although, as Punky said, microfiber+foster dogs=good mix!)

I've actually been considering getting a set from Bob's for the next couple of years while DS is still spitting up all over the couch... And I assume his furniture mis-treatment will only get worse. Plus, we have a ranch and DH is planning on vaulting all of our ceilings next Spring, so I don't feel like paying for another Jordan's couch right now that we'll just ruin.

PIP some pics of your living room once they're delivered!

  • Andrea, go look at the Colossal Clearance section at the Jordan's in Avon. They have tons of couches there at great prices. We bought one of ours there for like $500 and it's microfiber, was brand new, and is pretty comfy (PIB, the one in the red room).

  • Rock- I will, thanks! You're house is so perfectly decorated, I'm jealous! Where did you get the counter height table in your kitchen?

Aww, thank you.  It's definitely not perfect, but I like to think it's a good mix of pretty and comfy :)

The kitchen table came from Jordan's, ha!  Not the Clearance section but it was pretty reasonably priced.  It's a Kincaid and they kept it in stock for a long time, not sure if they still carry it now though.  We really like it.

  • Congrats on the new couches!  I think they should hold up fine for your expectations.  I bought a bedroom set there in 2005 and it is still in great shape.  My friends bought a "leather" couch there and it did not hold up very well.  I would think a basic couch would be just fine though.  We are considering getting a sleeper sofa from Bob's for our basement, since it would not get a ton of use and we don't want to spend $$$.

    Rock, I love your house.

Aww, thank you!  I really need to update some of those pics though.  We've finally cleaned up and put some more finishing touches in those rooms decor-wise and now looking at the pics in my bio I sort of cringe at some of the details (that only I'm bothered by, probably).

As for your couch, I'm telling you, go check out the options at Jordan's in Avon if you can make the trip.  So worth it.  I usually combine with a visit to the IKEA, Costco, and/or Home Depot in the same shopping complex :)

Love the folding chairs :) its hard when you first buy a house, you literally have to buy everything from curtains to cleaning products. But we are getting there! Hopefully having some trees taken down this spring and a fence put in. My best friend and her fiance just bought a house up the road from us, all they had was our old two chair pub style kitchen table. It certainly takes time!

ps. I will definitely be posting pics once they are delivered (forgot who suggested it!)

  • DH and I almost bought those a couple years ago and I wish we had- they felt so much sturdier than the super comfy (but now-look-like-crap) ones that we bought instead. Did you have obnoxious sales people?! I thought my MIL was going to punch this one salesman if he crept up behind us one more time in that store haha

Here is my thing about sales people, I dont mind when you help me when I ask and NEED help, but when you just jump at me as soon as I walk in the door and follow me around thats a problem haha. The guy we had was pretty good, I made it very clear as soon as I walked in that we were doing on own thing and when we needed help, we would ask :) I'll let you know how the couches work for us!

  • Oh yeah, I totally remember the obnoxious salespeople in Bob's.  We've only been in there a couple of times but both times a sales person latched on us immediately and totally followed us around the store--so annoying!  It's so obvious that they work on commission.  I much prefer shopping at Jordan's.  It's totally the opposite experience; there's always someone to help if you want it but they don't bug you otherwise.
