Does anybody here crochet?
I think I want to learn how and I need some suggestions on good first projects and where I can find good tutorials.

SHUTUP MULVA!!!!!!!!
I do! I learned from a friend, but I also found the Stitch and Biitch "Happy Hooker" book pretty helpful. You can find a bunch of how-to videos on YouTube, too.
If you want project inspiration, check out http://www.ravelry.com
I bet her FUPA's name is Shane, like the gunslinger/drifter of literature.--HappyTummy
Bwahaha! Noisy's post combined with her picture of Evie is perfect.
I could also use inspiration for knitting projects since I know how to do that (only basic rectangles and squares).

This yarn is ugly, but the pattern is super easy. http://laughingpurplegoldfish.blogspot.com/2008/03/one-hour-scarf.html
I would definitely suggest getting a book to help you learn to read patterns and how to do the different stitches. You can get a used copy of "The Happy Hooker" for like $6. http://www.amazon.com/Stitch-***-Crochet-Happy-Hooker/dp/0761139850/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1295391320&sr=8-1

Ravelry! Seriously, you'll find a TON of projects. It's free to join!

I'll heart it. I will.

I just learned to crochet at Christmas. I would start with a scarf. Straight lines, easy stitches etc. One you know how to chain, single stitch, or double stitch you can do lots of things.
I'm working on a hat but it might end up being a yarmulke for my dog instead...we'll see.
Ravelry has tons of free patterns and you can search for easy ones. Reading patterns is a bit of trick but once you know the abbreviations it isn't hard.
I've been watching lots of YouTube videos to learn certain things (magic loop, slip knot etc.)
HAVE FUN. It's totalllllly addicting.

I'm quite positive he would eat a potato latke...does that count?
