How do I clean a cloth purse?

I have a fabric purse and I have spot cleaned it over the years, but the poor thing has traveled far and wide and it just looks pathetic.  I really like the purse and it's a good bag for traveling, so I was wondering if this is something I could take to the cleaners and they could make it look new again?  I think I also have a tear in the lining and I was hoping they could fix that as well.  Thoughts?

Re: How do I clean a cloth purse?

  • You probably could take it to the cleaners.  Most have tailors and could probably fix the lining as well.  Call them and ask.
  • I just washed 3 of my fabric purses today and I was amazed at how clean they came out. I put them in the washer on gentle with a little laundry soap and let them air dry. you could put the one that has a tear into a garment bag and wash it that way and then sew the tear once it's clean.
