Is this legal for my work to do?

Closed today at 2:30 because of the snow (after only 5 children showed up....) without informing the teachers they were doing so. Told everyone to leave and that they would not be paid for the rest of they day. Can they do that? I should mention we are a private preschool... but still, if I showed up intending to work my full 8 hour shift, I should be paid accordingly. Had I called out and used a "personal day" I would have been paid my full 8 hour work day, but I went to work because we were not closing and I lose out on 2.5 hours pay, what gives?!

Re: Is this legal for my work to do?

  • Technically they should be paying you.  I think it's illegal for them to do what they did, but I'm not sure how much they can get away with since it's a private school.

that was pretty much what I and the other teachers, were thinking. I'm just trying to figure out who I should talk to about it I guess... I am sick of these snow days that's for sure!
