I hate the whole process of moving

Looking for a place to move

Applying to places to move

Packing

The actual moving

and Unpacking

Particularly dislike it when the move is across town ... *sigh*

Re: I hate the whole process of moving

  • I hate it too. And it's worse close because it looks deceptively simple.
  • I hate moving, especially short moves.  We moved in to this apartment from the far away distance of downstairs.  I told D next I'm not moving from here unless we buy a house.
  • Larissa you are so right.  We moved 5 miles when we bought our house, it was ridiculous !

But, I did find that I had a lot of stuff to donate when we moved in ... it was cleansing to say the least.

    Good luck, Jill.

  • Yep. Short moves suck. We just moved across the apartment complex last time. If we were moving farther, we would have actually packed for real and rented a truck to do it in one trip. Instead, we were totally disorganized and transported stuff in our trunks and friends' trucks. Such a mess!

  • Is it horrible that it's kind of comforting that we're not the only doofuses who had a short move (ours to this place was 9.5 blocks) and therefore didn't properly prepare or handle it?  Eight zillion trips in a CR-V, a Jeep, and a friend's Explorer was pretty ridiculous.
  • I've moved across town three times...it sucked every single time. I hate moving, period.

  • My sister moved 7.5 miles from their old condo to their temp place and then again 2 miles when the house they bough was ready. That sucked big time. Within 2.5 months. Ugh! Moving is no fun at all.

  • Well, it's not really what I call a "short distance" ... it's about 50 miles from our current place to where we're looking. Across town would be across Houston in this case. And Houston is very spread out.

I suspect we'll be getting rid of a lot of crap before we move. And my daughter has informed me that we don't need to worry about a room specifically for her because she thinks she'll be moving out of her parents' homes after HS graduation. Bwahahahahahaah!!!! But hey, whatever. I have this sneaking suspicion that even if she has to work four jobs, she'll do it so she can be "independent".

I'm mostly disappointed because my son will have to move and change HS's again, even though when I bought this place I planned to stay here till he was done. However ... with things the way they are, I don't see any way around it.

I keep telling myself he'll adjust ... he always has in the past, but I still feel like the worst mom in the world.
