China storage

Hello! Sorry if this question has been posted a lot, I usually hang out on other boards and the search didn't find anything...

H and I are getting ready to move for the first time since getting married, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about storing my china. I want to keep it as safe as possible (I mean, who doesn't?? lol) but I can't spend a fortune on super fancy storage either. I would be willing to invest a little though, because I know we will be moving again at least once after this. Also, I would take stability over attractiveness of the boxes.

Any thoughts?? TIA!

Re: China storage

  • I didn't have a great place to store china in our old place so I bought a bunch of bags that have plate dividers in them to help keep them safe and then put them in a storage bench.  The bags are not enough protection for moving though.  I now have cabinets they will fit in but leave them in the bags so I don't accidentally tip a stack of plates over and break then while pulling them down from the top shelf.

We didn't have a single breakage on the move (using movers) from Atlanta to Denver.  We wrapped each plate individually then wrapped three plates together and packed in boxes with packing paper stuffed in so things couldn't shift.
