I am in picky eater land....Help Me!

Monk will not eat anything but spaghetti and fruit....I have tried everything I could think of, today I had to mix peanut butter in some of my yogurt to feed him, and he fought me the whole way on that..but scarfed up the apple bits I gave him....I am running out of ideas and patience. The kid wont even eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which I thought for sure would be eaten right up.....I havent had much luck with chicken or turkey, or meat in general, so I have been trying to give him protein from other sources, but he is starting to even fight me on that.... Any suggestions???

Re: I am in picky eater land....Help Me!

  • I just let Jake eat what he wants, I get tired of him throwing stuff on the floor or refusing to open his mouth if I try to feed him. He's won't eat chicken unless it's a chicken nugget, and won't touch beef or turkey unless they are well hidden in something else he's willing to eat, but he will eat little cubes of ham which is strange to me. He also loves eggs, so he gets scrambled eggs a lot.
  • I used to make grilled cheese sandwiches for the boys I watched and cut them up in strips and let them dip it in ketchup. GL!

  • Don't stop offering things!!! I know it's wasteful when 9 times out of 10 it gets thrown on the floor or not even touched but that ONE time he eats it you'll be so happy and he will realize it's tasty. I have to do this with Charli. Sometimes she will chow down on broccoli ... other times she will just feed it to me instead, lol.

I recently got Charli to start eating eggs again by melting in a LOT of cheese. She calls her eggs cheese but at least she eats them. She will also eat anything on top of pizza so I've been making my own pizzas with weird things on them just so she will eat it without realizing. Tricky, but it works. She also loves spaghetti so I just make sure I give her whole grain noodles and I make the sauce extra meaty since it's one of the only ways she will eat meat.

Also a good place to hide a slice or two of thin lunch meat :o

  • R isn't much of a meat eater either.  He likes hot dogs, sausage, chicken nuggets and occasionally ham or turkey.  It's just hit or miss.  I find myself much more relaxed now that I've stopped letting it stress me out.  Veggies are tough for us, but he gets at least some every day.  And..he drinks V8 fusion.

He's getting much better.  For a while, I would ask him what he wanted to eat, because then there was a better chance of him actually eating.  I still do that a few times each week, but it also helps to just get him excited about it.  "Tonight, we're having grilled cheese and broccoli!" and he gets all excited.  Weird...but it works.

We've also found that just getting him to try something helps.  Eat one bite..and he will usually eat at least a few more.

Also, our go-to protein source is beans.  He will eat refried beans til they come out of his ears!  We just mix in a little cheese, salsa and sour cream and he chows!  We made bean soup the other night and he's been showing on that as well.

Good luck, just be patient.  He'll come around.

I tried this, he picked apart the sandwich and took out the meat.

  • U are deffiatley not alone. My dh doesn't handle this picky eating stage well either so that doesn't help. Just try to be creative and keep trying. I do some of what others have mentioned, but mix the veggies in whatever he does eat good. Last night m had chix nuggets dipped in catsup but I stuck the peas to the catsup. Also we buy the alfredo in a jar or a packet like pasta roni and mix in chicken and a veggie, my kids love the alfredo w/ noodles. Have u tried meatloaf? My kids just seem to eat anyyhing w/ that extra sweet taste from catsup.

Me! I have never liked ketchup on anything but hotdogs. I have only recently started putting in on hamburgers, and I hate to dip things in it. My nephews don't like it either.

Does he like BBQ sauce? I used to dip everything in BBQ when I was little.

    Jake doesn't like ketchup either

  • I thought R was weird because he doesn't like ranch...but he'll eat ketchup on everything...including the pizza he had for lunch today.  He is just like his father.
  • Charli won't eat ketchup eitherm and I never give her dips anyway because they are messy. (Mean Mommy!). Skyler started eating ketchup sometime between 2 & 3.
  • Way late on this. Brendan doesnt like Ketchup. He likes ranch.

He is very picky about his nuggets. Will only eat Wendys. And he doest eat much other meat, except for little diced up ham.

B2 LOVES those stupid Danimal fruit smoothies. I let him have one every day for breakfast. I gave up the picky eater food fight. If he throws it on the floor and the dogs eat it, whatever. He does like spagettios,so I let him eat those. He also likes franks and beans but the weirdest of them all is he like chili.

I cant get him to eat turkey, but the ILs can.

I am honestly starting to think that it's more of "what strikes his fancy" at that moment and time in regards to what he will eat.

Don't give up and just keep offering him foods to eat. He may surprize you.
