Re: panda

  • AHHHH!  I want to go back!

I wish I had taken the advice to allow all day for my first trip.  We went around dinner time, stood in the wrong line for a minute or two (the line for dropping children off to play in the playroom, oops!), then found the cafeteria and ate dinner, which was surprisingly delicious.  The meatballs were really, really good.  I had the pasta, which was so yummy.  And some apple cake thing for dessert, which I mean really, it was good.

Then we walked around the second floor and by the time we finished up there we didn't have time to walk around the first floor - just enough time to find our flat boxes in the warehouse and cash out.

There were these annoying women in front of us in the checkout line.  They had their daughters and were all buying lots of small stuff (like packages of $1 napkins) and they had this pretentious "I'm pretending to be richer than I am" air about them.  The one wanted to buy these (ugly) baskets that were $16.99 and she was all like, "I thought they were $6.99!" and made the cashier go find a manager to double check.  Ten minutes later, manager took one look at the lady and says, "They're $16.99." and just walked away.  I was like, c'mon lady, that argument never works.

So then we cashed out and went home.  We have to go back because I never saw the first floor and didn't get a chance to buy meatballs or cinnamon buns, which I didn't know they sold but everyone had big trays of them!  They smelled so amazing.

Aside from the two lanterns, tealight candles, one wine glass, and a tub for Mitten's kibble, this is what we bought:

This table is PERFECT for our tiny dining area.  http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20104718

And two of these to go with it, the birch legs and white cover: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S09861434

We're probably going to get this in black at some point, but the box was heavy and the thought of dragging it up three flights of stairs is making us wait:  http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79861261

  • YAY! a successful trip!! i usually skim the first floor myself, but it depends on what i'm in there for (i rarely make trips just to walk around anymore..the store is too much of a time suck!). i'm still using the tiny dining table & chairs i bought from them right out of college (summer 2004 i guess), they're still holding together! that is the thing about ikea though-you have to be prepared to lug heavy boxes n' sh!t. i once bought a sort of propped up bed-it had storage units underneath-i had to drive it 2 hrs back to school and then find some frat boy friends to lug it up 3 floors of the house to get it in to my bedroom...then i made them figure out how to put it together! ha!!

noteworthy: ikea stuff has a tendancy to not fit together like the directions and holes are drilled. always be prepared to buy additional screws and to drill additional holes and to possibly have leftover screws. my dad HATES ikea stuff-he has had to drill more extra holes and anchor sh!t to the walls bc some of their stuff doesn't actually stay standing up once you get it together and put stuff on it. go figure. so yeah, just incase you find that to be the case-it's ikea, not you! ;)

can't wait to hear how you enjoy the first floor! and i'm intrigued by the dinner review! in 20 yrs i've never, ever eaten at ikea once. maybe i should?!!

  • All the stuff we bought fit together with no extra holes or screws needed - I guess we lucked out!

We ate there because it was a free meal - when you spend over a certain amount they deduct your dinner from your bill, but yes, I think you should eat there!  Especially that apple cake thingy.
