Is there a polite way....

To ask people to stop calling me Jessie? Jessica. Jess. Both fine. I hate Jessie. Five years ago, first five mins of being alone with her for the first time, she asks iF her daughter could call me jessie because she already knew a  Jess & Jessica. she is that sturn unwarm Personality and i didnt feel comfortable saying no, so I said it was fine. then the other night my FIL called me Jessie!!! MULTIPLE TIMES!!!

Re: Is there a polite way....

  • Well, you did tell them Jessie was OK in the past, so that's probably why they're doing it... I don't know who "her" is but if you don't like being called that now by whoever it is, I'd probably have DH say something casual/in passing to them about how "Jessie" has some negative connotations to you and they should probably call you Jessica or Jess.
  • ditto what PP said. I feel I am missing a piece in the OP but I would have DH talk to them or just speak up. Say you would like to be called Jessica or Jess as Jessie has negative connotations for you. Most people will be eager to follow, it may be harder if one of them is little.

  • I basically felt like sil was telling me rather than asking me. I talked to dh at lunch about it, he said he almost said something to his dad but didn't want me to feel akward.

  • Oh, it's your SIL?  Egad.  How about her daughter calls you Aunt Jessica -- I doubt she already has two of those...

FIL probably picked it up because he hears SIL and your niece saying it.  Just be blunt and say you're not fond of Jessie and would prefer not to be called by your ILs.

exactly. I've got to stop posting on my iPhone. My inlaws were just visiting my SIL so I'm ire that's where FIL picked up on calling me Jessie, he's never done it before. I just feel dumb lol.
