washer/dryer suggestions?

DH & I are in the process of buying our first home, so we also have to buy our first washer & dryer.  We want high efficiency appliances & are willing to spend up to $1600(ish).  We'll probably have kids before we buy another set, so larger capacity is better.

 Any suggestions?

Re: washer/dryer suggestions?

  • I personally like the LG Brand for front loading. LG also makes Kenmore in front loaders. So either one of those will work.

Def. shop around for the best deal. Most places will price match competitors prices, but won't match their delivery/haul away/fiancing deals- so find which store those deals help the most and bring them the cheapest price you find.

Front loaders can hold alot more clothes and bedding than one would think. Anything that is a 3.5cu ft or larger will do queen bedding including comforters. 4.0 cu ft or larger will do kind including comforters. I personally don't see the need for the 4.5 cu ft washers- unless you are doing laundry only every month or month and a half. But some people like them.

Also steam in the washer can help with getting stains out.. but it can also set some stains that need lower temps to get out. So I would stay away from that feature. But steam in the dryer is nice. It refreshes, and also helps steam out wrinkles-but it isn't an necessity.

    Hope this helps!

  • We bought the Whirlpool Cabrio W/D about a year ago and LOVE it. The washer is a top load HE, but it does not have the agitor in the middle so it is larger capacity. I can even put in my king size down comforter with no issues. I think it is a 5.0 cu ft capacity. Dryer is also large capacity.

Agree w/pp, shop around. We saw a similar Maytag model at Home Depot on sale. We went to Lowes for the Cabrio and asked for price match and they did it.

  • We have the Kenmore HE4t.  We've had them 5 years and zero issues.  The only thing I've found is that I turn down the spin cycle to medium speed for everything except towels.  It just seems much to agressive for most of our clothes.

Yes, we did get a warranty, can't remember the details. We get warranties on all our large appliances.

  • We have a Whirlpool Duet set. They are front loaders and hold a lot! As a new mom I love the sanitize cycle. I do laundry everyday and so far no complaints!
