Tell me about your video monitor

So, I'm one of those people that doesn't want to register for a video monitor because they're expensive and seem overboard to me. But, it seems that everyone that has one loves it! Is it just peace of mind being able to see the baby? Is the screen really clear enough that you can see him/her breathing? Do you have to leave a light on in the baby's room at night to be able to see him/her?

Also, which one do you have and are there certain features you like or don't like about it?

TIA!

Re: Tell me about your video monitor

  • I also thought it was overboard, but got it since the baby's room is on a different floor than ours.  I got the Summer Infant slim and secure.  Size of handheld monitor and screen is about the same of a blackberry.  I have the monitor sitting on his mirror, looking down into the crib.  It has the night vision feature, and works great, although I still leave a night light on in his room.  If the volume is up loud, you can hear him breathing.  It has been nice to see him to see if he's really upset and needs us, or is about to go back to sleep.  It's also funny sometimes to watch him sitting up, looking around, playing, grabbing the rails to get out!!!!

  • This is my third baby and I JUST decided to get a monitor.  I also have the Summer Infant one and you can hear EVERYTHING.  I actually have to turn it off sometimes because it makes me so jumpy.  I am sure my other two made just as much noise and moved as much but i had no idea because I didn't have a monitor.  The room is pitch black at night and I can still see every little move she makes.  If you are going to get one, get the one you want.  Don't feel badly registering for it either.  If you don't get it then you can always get one on your own anyway!
  • Summer Slim & Secure here (the one w/ the battery recall).

Absolutely loved it - I say past b/c I dropped the damn receiver and now I only have sound, no video :-( But it's GREAT. Digital signal so no one else can pick up the signal, etc. Fabulous!

  • If you get one make sure its the digital signal kind.  I registered and got the summer infant day and night one and it was 900MHZ and i could see one neighbor on channel A and the other on channel B when my camera was off.  I returned it and got the Summer infant one that pans and zooms.   love that it pans around the room via the screen on the monitor.  I think it will be good when she is in a real bed and she gets up i can see what she is doing in her room.
