Putting on my bragging pants
I finally attempted my dad's legendary spaghetti sauce! Details *and recipe* in the blog.

Re: Putting on my bragging pants
Even to a vegetarian, that sounds yummy! Congrats on your culinary accomplishment!
(I've got to figure out how to make an awesome veg-friendly marinara from scratch. I swear, my Italian side of the family is ready to disown me...and all the family recipes are heavy meat-based!)
Thanks!
I'd imagine a really good veggie sauce recipe would be hard. Because, for me, the meat gives it a really wonderful flavor. Have you tried many?

Um. One. I invented it. (Translation: I was watching too much Food Network/Top Chef and figured "Eh, I can figure something out!")
Ingredients: two large heirloom tomatoes, one green jalapeno, two small red serano chilis, one white onion, a handful of fresh basil leaves, 1/4 - 1/2 cup of red wine, 1 cup water, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
And the blog post with instructions: http://littlelionslife.blogspot.com/2010/08/creativity-in-kitchen.html
On one of her shows, she talked about jar spaghetti sauces and recommended looking for ones that list tomatoes as the first ingrediant instead of tomoato puree. What a difference! It is a little pricier but so worth it. I buy the most basic one (tomato basil) and then add my own spices (usually garlic, a little Italian seasoning, and some cayenne or red pepper flakes).
