Fun times on Craigslist - and a baby related question

I have had minimal luck finding a dresser with space for a changing pad for less than an arm and a leg.  Decided to look on Craigslist......OMG I can not believe the stuff people are trying to sell on there!  Potties, used sheets, broken stuff, things with stains.  And the grammar!  HA!  "Clothes only warn a few times", "My baby he fat and never used it", "txt me and I txt u bak"  *face palm*.

On a related note, do any of you have a dresser/changer?  Where did you get it?  Thanks!

  • we got ours at Baby Depot.  The crib, changing table and dresser were around $900.  So not bad, the changing table is separate than the dresser.

  • BRU using a 20% off coupon (or maybe it was on sale?).  We just got the 6 drawer dresser that doubles as the changing table.  Works perfectly for us!

  • I am a craigslist QUEEN! Buying and selling. I just got the Plan Wooden Dollhouse two days ago. We got an amish rocker, weight sets, a heavy bag for DH, a full size ladder for our house, a $2000 farmhouse table with shaker ladderback chairs for $300, our washer and dryer, some of the pottery I collect (for nickels compared to what it's worth), antique chairs, a free treadmill, free kids books, a dog bed, all my maternity clothes, slate patio stepping stones (7x cheaper than the hardware store) and the list goes on and on. And you know what...no one would ever be able to tell that we got such great deals on pretty much everything in our house.

Our changing table is an antique dresser with a beveled edge mirror that we threw a changing pad on...for $100.  That's cheaper than Walmart.  And the treat is it is gaining value rather than losing.

  • We decided to buy a full size chest of drawers and a cheap changing table (I found a clearance one at Target for $40).  I figured that DD would appreciate the extra storage space for clothes as she got older, since we're planning she'll keep the chest until she goes off to college.  When she was tiny I had one drawer dedicated to each size of clothing -- newborn, 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, and the top drawer full of socks and sleep sacks.  Now the top drawer has socks and hair accessories and the other drawers are all full of clothes she can wear now.

At the time we bought the chest we also bought a matching nightstand that we have stored in the basement.  We'll put it in her room after we're done using the changing table -- her room is too small to have both at the same time.

  • We went big and bought the matching dresser for his crib. I didn't do the one with the sides on top so he could grow with it. I will do this again for baby #2, its a way to justify buying a piece of nice furniture to hopefully have for their whole life.

    I used a 20% off coupon too.

  • the boys have my dresser from when I was a kid... and then we put a changing pad on top... I am hoping to not be changing them up there too much longer, it is easier on all of us to change and get dressed on the floor and I am thinking I will just keep a blanket or something under Jack's crib to put on the floor when I change their diaper...

I am not looking forward to when the boys are a little older and need a second dresser... free is  way more easy to handle than having to buy a dresser!  But soon they will need a second one, as their clothes get bigger they take up more room!

  • I got a combo piece at IKEA. I can't remember how much for but it wasn't bad.

  • I currently have an old dresser in the boys room from when I was a kid. I have 2 changing tables, one in the nursery and one downstairs. The one downstairs I ordered from Overstock for $60.00 and honestly, I love it.  I also am always searching craigslist for deals, and I go to a couple of baby consignment shops.  Sometimes you can find used furniture there.

  • I got our changing table at a garage sale for $10.  Ridley's dresser is a hand-me-down from my niece (we actually have the whole set - dresser, bed and desk).

This is exactly what we did, but my in laws actually paid for it as a baby gift!

  • We got one similar to this but in Cherry - if you price shop you can find them pretty inexpensive.  It was a total PITA to put together, but now it's great.

Also, check out Target asap - the big Targets have hugs baby clearances right now and it's hit or miss but I saw changing tables at ours here in MA.

  • We have the  3 drawer Ikea Henmes dresser and love it.   We bought it for ourselves 4 years ago and it's held up great. It's only $150 and has lots of room. I'm 5'4" and don't find it too high with a changing pad on top. It's also easy to put together.
