Another Poll: Favorite Weight Loss Trick/Myth
Is there something that you've heard helps with weight loss that you do, even if you don't necessarily know that it's true? Is there a weight loss myth that you're guilty of sticking with?
I've heard that lemon in your water increases your metabolism so I add lemon juice to water that I drink throughout the day. It tastes good so even if it's not true I don't mind. The only problem I've had is that I get eaten alive by bugs during the summer so I have to cut back if I'm going to be outdoors. Not sure the lemon water causes it but it's the only connection I could make to the increase in bug bites.
Re: Another Poll: Favorite Weight Loss Trick/Myth
When we're actively trying to lose weight, DH and I try to stick to the following:
- little to no carbs after 3pm or so
- no more eating after 8pm or so
I've heard two things primarily
1) Do not ever skip breakfast...this for me is difficult because I'm so distracted at the beginning of the day and breakfast foods are not necessarily my favorite. Yet, people swear by this.
2) I've heard that you must get your water in. I just had a weigh in at my doctor's office (the second in as many weeks) and I had a 7lb drop in weight without really much effort. A big part of that is that I drank a lot more water than normal - pretty much started drinking what is supposed to be the daily recommended amount.
Another thing I've just heard - from my eart doctor no less - when he was responding to my searching for a low-fat diet - was that if I just gave up one thing or made one major change a week...and then add the following week something else, that I would start to see a difference. The first week I started watching portions...not weighing or anything, just imagining what a skinny girl would order/serve herself and went with that. That made me choose better foods when I had options. The second week I started drinking more water - which replaced caffinated and whole juice drinks.
This is actually not a myth, but i dont think it has to do with your metabolism. I heard that because it is alkaline, it balances out the acids in your stomach, making it easier for your body to digest and break down food, so having lemon in your water makes digestion go faster. Something like that. So, keep it up!
I do it too...
