VENT- 20 Week N/T Scan

This may be long...

We have had our 20 week ultrasound scheduled for today for nearly two months now... Well, this morning I get a call from the ultrasound office asking us to reschedule due to weather because the u/s tech wants to leave early in case the roads are bad. WTF? Well, with everything that is going on at my work and Matt being in his busy season, I knew it would be hard to do. Anyway, I called back and the earliest appointment they had that would work for us is in two and a half weeks. Sigh. So now, Matt is shifting his hours, I am leaving work early, all to just rush and get to the appointment before the tech decides that the 'roads are bad' and she's leaving. I am so irritated. I just want to see our baby.

ETA: As of right now, there is less than 1" of snow on the ground.

  • That's ridiculous.

  • That is ridiculous, people freak out way too much about the snow especially in areas that deal with it all the time.  I'm sorry!

  • That sounds like the norm for my area (since 6" such the city down for 5 days, not kidding), but not yours! I'd be upset to. And 2 weeks? You'd think they'd be a tad more accommodating since they are changing the appointment. What if  you didn't know the gender and this was the big u/s too?

  • Not cool. Why does the tech get to dictate that it's time to go home? I get the fear of driving in bad weather, but if the office isn't closed then they are expected to be there correct? Did you voice your displeasure?

I live in New England and I am so sick of all the "OMG we are getting snow" reports. If you live here you understand it snows and weather may be bad, you either need to take extra time in your commutes and go slow, or stay home and use PTO if the office isn't closed.

  • I'm sorry, that sucks. It sounds like you live around people with the same snow fear that I do. We have 2-3" and it's still snowing (we're supposed to get a max of 4-5") but people are freaking out.

I did. I called and talked to the office manager for about 20 minutes. Supposedly, the u/s tech lives an hour away. Well, that's not my problem.

And Jo, it is the SAME exact way here. Even though we live in Ohio, we live in the central part that doesn't get a whole lot of snow like other places. So, when they predict 2-4" by this evening, everyone freaks out.

Ditto. Some people are such babies about snow.

That really sucks. I've had dentist appointments canceled due to the hygienist randomly taking the day off or leaving early; it happened multiple times. I understand things come up, but it seems like some people just don't think about how they are inconveniencing others.

This is so strange, we get 6 inches and it's business as usual!  Although I would enjoy a snow day every now and then.  I've actually only gotten to leave work "early" twice in the 4 years I've lived here!  And that was only for ice, not really even "too much snow".  Pretty sure the last time the city shut down was in 2006 when they got 20+ inches in one day.  And that was 3 months before I moved.

    These Coloradoans are super hardcore.

  • I think that is so weird. The NYC and Philly metros are not really known for their awesome snow removal, but nothing except schools close for 5inches(schools at 4 usually). Is there only one tech? I am in for a rude awakening when we go to the OB....our RE has done every scan (except one on the weekend anNP did). ugh. Maybe you can ask them to call if there is a cancellation sooner?
  • Lame. It is not your fault the u/s tech lives an hour away and WHY do you wait until the day of to reschedule.

I love it-we, as patients can wait for an hour, get a call a day of to cancel but yet when we do it, the docs and nurses get their panties in a bunch about it.

  • That's super lame. I'd be pissed too. WTF.
  • That sucks Ana. I am sure that you were counting down the minutes until you got see her again and make sure everything is alright. I hope you get to see her and forget the stress and just enjoy looking at your LO

  • I can imagine how annoying that was and what an inconvenience it was, but maybe she had a good reason to leave early. I have no idea what time your original appointment was, so that would be a factor too.

I have to be to Brody's day care no later than 5:30 to pick him up, but I like to be there by 5:15. I live 45 minutes from my work (on a good day) and it could easily double my travel time if the roads are bad. While I don't work with clients/appointments, there have been days I had to leave work early because of the road conditions and the fact I needed to be home by a certain time. As annoying as it was, maybe she had a similiar situation??

  • That is frustrating as you plan your day/ week by that. Here, our doctors try to get people in earlier in the day for their appts if it's inclement weather. At my work/ hospital, it's shunned to cancel appts for weather- we got a nasty email about it a few weeks ago threatening us to show up.
