On my way to get my oil changed at Honda, this store caught my eye and I stopped in on the way home. It's totally a mom & pop kind of shop and for youngsters a bit older than most of ours, BUT a true gem hehehehe In the back of the shop there is a sand pit that you dig for your gems and fill a bag for $5. The owner will then sit with you and explain the gems you found. My nephews are coming to visit this weekend and I thought it would be a lot of fun. We won't be able to make it since they're closed on Sunday.

Don't let the website fool you - it's a small, but really cute place.
Re: fun field trip!
Oooh, the website says they have mounted taxidermy! LOL!
That looks like a neat place (other than the taxidermy). I can see taking Helen there someday to dig in the sand pit.
I have to say that I think you're the most adventursome person I know, Jess. I probably have driven by places like that dozens of times and never thought to stop and look.
This! I've driven by that place and never given it a second thought. Guess that's why I still say "I'm bored."
