iphone 3GS vs iphone 4G

and thoughts, feedback?

DH and i both need new phones (neither of us has a camera, well i don't have one and his doesn't work) and of course we'll want that before the baby comes :) we're thinking we should just take the plunge and get iphones.

here's the thing, we can get the iphone 3GS for $50 each and the 4G would be $200 each. is it worth it? tia

Re: iphone 3GS vs iphone 4G

  • I had both in the span of a month, and I like the 4G better. It's a crisper screen, runs better, has better battery life...but my mom has a 3GS and really likes it, too.

Honestly, the differences between the 4G and 3GS is 1. front-facing camera and FaceTime, 2. better battery life [as long as you don't use apps on it all day like I do] and 3. crisper screen images. Oh, and 4. better camera on 4G. The apps are the same, they run on the same network since I don't think AT&T technically has 4G yet, they run about the same speeds...so if you guys want to save money, just get the 3GS. If you don't plan on using FaceTime, definitely just get the 3GS - it's still a good phone.

  • DH and I both have the 3GS and love it, but I can't deny that I wouldn't love a 4G :) I think we're going to upgrade to the 4G before we go to China and I'm kinda hoping they have an even newer one out by then. Anyhow, we're going to upgrade so we can video skype from the iphone when we're over there. Other than that, I can't say if it's worth an extra $150 each though because I haven't played with the 4G all that much.

  • I have the 3GS and love it!!!  I was looking at the 4G, but I just couldn't justify paying $200.00 when I wasnt going to be using the facetime and stuff.  I'm sure when the price drops MUCH lower, I'll probably upgrade but until then, I'll happy with it!!!!

  • what's face time, eb? the video chat thing? yeah, we won't need that.
  • I have the 3G and have been pretty happy with it.  I will say that some of the iPhone updates have been frustrating though.  The first update locked me out of my voicemail, so I had AT&T reset me to the older setting.  The most recent update cleared out ALL of my music on the iPod setting :(  I still need to go reload.

Yup yup - the video chat thing. I got a 4G thinking H and I were going to use it, but he doesn't have a 4G yet because he's hoping a white 4G will come out. And, you can only use FaceTime when connected to wireless Internet, which is stupid.

The last update wiped out my mom's voicemail, too - and it locked my phone up. Had to restore it. Stupid updates.

  • I have the 3GS and H has the 4G -- I has the option of a 4G, but I like the classic look of the 3GS

We have not had any problems either way, we just can video chat w each other
