I just got off the phone with the vet.
The good news: It's not cancer, it's not kidney disease, he's not dying - whooohooo!
The bad news: He has chronic inflammatory bowl disease, pancreatitis, an inflamed liver, and renal infractions in his kidneys (I'm not really sure what that means and dr google isn't helpful). Basically his digestive system is a mess and he's not absorbing nutrients.
The solution: A new diet to help build muscle mass, an antibiotic, and weekly injections of B12. So, in the grand scheme of things, not too expensive.
:::Fingers crossed that this helps:::

Are you sure your doctor didn't say renal infarctions? Try googling that.
I hope your kitty gets better soon!
exactly!
Sam, Fred and Mooki are all happy to hear your kitty is doing better than expected. Well actually Sam would probably chase your kitty, Fred would probably cower from him, and Mooki would probably hiss. But I know they would appreciate the love you are giving him....
I hope the recovery goes fast for all of you. It still sounds like a decent amount of work to restore intestinal peace, but kitties are totally worth it in my opinion.
