    Here are Paige's standard questions!

    Name? Brienne Eileen
    Birthdate? 02-08 And age? 28
    Favorite Food? Sweet potato pancakes
Favorite Color? This is changing.  I'm currently really liking yellow, grays and blue-grays/aqua.
    Favorite thing about yourself?
Least favorite thing about yourself? My size
Favorite Season and why? Winter - because of snow.
What are you most looking forward to in 2011? Honestly, nothing, but for an answer around Steve, the bathroom remodel.

What do you think it is about the ladies on this board that make us all keep coming back? I think that for those that are in the same stage in life, it's easy to relate to each other and we've been through at least one extremely stressful moment in each others' life so that pulls us together.

Can you tell us more about your job? I'm a contractor for NASA.

What do you do?My current position supports the systems engineering branch at Goddard. Systems Engineering is the process in a project that defines the requirements of a spacecraft and all the components and makes sure that we are building the right spacecraft to fulfill what the scientists wants.

I've been working on updating the processes/document templates in which all systems engineers have to follow to document how they are performing their roles on the projects.  We are making sure that we match what NASA HQ says we should be doing as a center. I've also been doing configuration management for the branch...there is a planning document that my boss has to sign for every project.  Well, I coordinate the review of that document and am in charge of keeping the records and signatures of approval.

Because Congress has yet to set a budget, there is no more money for me to work on the above items until there is a budget passed (hopefully there will be money then), so in the mean time, I'm supporting to flight missions. One is a new project that is having it's first design review and I'm helping them write some of their systems engineering planning documentation and will be helping them with writing their high level requirements. The other project is more support in a data entry type way.

What does a typical work day look like for you? I get in, load up my computer, and most of it is sitting at my desk writing documents or doing data entry.

    HI BRIE!

I haven't read through your questions yet so ignore any duplicates.

What is your favorite thing to bake? Kind of talked about this in the previous thread - but simple things like crumbles and tarts.  Quick satisfaction.
What do you order most from your favorite restaurant? See above
What is one food you would NEVER eat? Octopus/Squid
What is your favorite month and why? February/March because I usually feel renewed - I'm finally recovered from the holidays, I feel organized again and the beginning of the season change makes me feel refreshed.
What is your favorite holiday and why? It's really a toss up of Thanksgiving and Christmas because I like entertaining.

  • imagejaimebeth9:
What's your dress code at work?  Business casual but I see people from suits to jeans on a daily basis.  I usually wear jeans because I sit in an office at a desk all day and rarely see more than 3 people.  If it's a day where I have a meeting, I dress up.

any recent kitten stories or pics?

I didn't mean to skip over you.  I don't have any pictures to post until I get home, but I will do that tonight.

Not many good stories lately. But one day the kitties jumped up on the bathroom counter while I was getting ready and in stead of having them knock my toothbrush off, I turned on the water to distract them.  They are fascinated by this. Every time we go into a bathroom, they come running in because it's play time.  We put in just on a drizzle because it makes a tinkle noise on the drain and they alternate between trying to keep the water from going down the drain to trying to "bite" the water with their mouths...usually we just end up with wet kitties and wet foot prints on the floor.  They really like it when we turn the water on in the tub.

  • Will your job be affected by the end of the space program? B/c isn't it ending? Or is it just the space shuttle part that is ending? Btw, I totally know what pcs means. Well not what stands for but what it means. B/c my parents pcs'd alot in the army!
  • If you had to move to another state ( not md or wi) which would you pick? Did you play any sports or instruments in hs? Belong to any clubs? Where in mke area did you live? How did you meet steve? Pet peeves?
  • imagemarytini:

Will your job be affected by the end of the space program? B/c isn't it ending? Or is it just the space shuttle part that is ending?  Goddard mostly deals with earth/planetary robotic exploration missions, so no I won't be affected.  The space program is not ending, however, they are retiring the shuttles, so after the last launch, a human will only be able to get into space (and to the space station) via Russian spacecraft. This will mostly affect people working in Houston and Kennedy but there are other centers that also build components for the shuttle that will be affected.  There are going to be 1000s of layoffs because they have very specialized jobs and we are not to the point of building the replacement spacecraft.

Btw, I totally know what pcs means. Well not what stands for but what it means. B/c my parents pcs'd alot in the army! Permanent Change of Station, but for Steve that only means we'd be there for 3 years.

  • imagemarytini:

If you had to move to another state ( not md or wi) which would you pick?If we didn't have to work, it would be a toss up between Maine or North Carolina.  I like the lifestyle of Asheville NC, but I would miss the snow.  I think Maine because since I wouldn't be working I could just take pictures all the time.

Did you play any sports or instruments in hs? I played the flute and was second chair for most of high school.  I also swam on both a private team and for the high school.  I quite the private team before my junior year and then stopped the hs team after my junior year because of politics/coaches. Belong to any clubs? I was on the Math team and did some Physics Olympics too.

Where in mke area did you live?I lived in between Milwaukee and Madison basically.  If you get off at the Delafield exit off of 94, my parents house is about 5 minutes north/northeast. The town is called Hartland.

How did you meet steve?Steve and I both co-oped in college and we were on opposite schedules.  Since I wanted to take a class that was only offered in the Spring and didn't want to take it in my last semester (it was orbital mechanics and it was a hard course so I didn't want to do it with my senior design class), I switched and stayed at school for a second semester instead of going to work.

Since I was staying at school, a friend (G) asked if I could meet the people subleasing her apartment (coming back from co-op while she was going) to exchange her key to them. I knew one of them (J) vaguely but he was Steve's friend.  So Steve likes to say I showed up at his doorstep.

A few weeks later I borrowed some software from another one of their roommates and made the apartment dinner (Steve passed) but we talked for a bit.

A couple weeks later, it was my birthday and everyone I knew was out of town, so I was actually doing homework.  Well, J started chatting with me and said I had to come over for a drink and well, the rest is history.  Steve and I were basically inseparable since except for our last semester of working.

Pet peeves? I have a lot of driving-related ones, especially people who don't know how to use a turn signal. And it's very common for people not to yield to oncoming traffic when there's a yield sign...they think they are better than anyone else here.

  • I NEVER would have pegged you for a Top Gear Fan!!!!

Who is your favorite guy? What do you like about it?

Jeff LOVES it and bought every season on DVD but could only find it in the UK format so he then bought that style DVD player too. It was on 24/7 for a while at my house. It took some getting used to but is pretty good.

  • Got any plans for watching the big game on Sunday?

What should I make for us and another couple (bears fans) to eat for dinner that night??

  • imagemarytini:

Got any plans for watching the big game on Sunday?

What should I make for us and another couple (bears fans) to eat for dinner that night??

Well, Steve and I are going to a concert immediately afterwards, so it will be low key.  We are going with another couple and they are going to come over and watch it with us before we go.

I was actually thinking about what to make for dinner when they come over, as the guy is from Chicago and is a bears fan.  I'm thinking cheese fondue, but we needs something else, so I'm still brainstorming.

I'm a little concerned about watching it with them. I can get grumpy if things aren't going well and I tend to do something away from the TV as sometimes me not watching makes them do better.
