Small towns near Dallas?

DH and I are getting ready to sell our house in the Frisco/McKinney area.  We both have pretty ugly commutes (he commutes to the Preston Hollow area which is about an hour to an hour and a half one way, and I drive only 10 miles away but am stuck in traffic for 35 to 45 minutes one way).  We are seriously thinking about moving south and slightly east of Dallas to try to avoid some if this traffic congestion, but I don't know enough about that area to be able to tell if it would really be beneficial.

I'm looking at smaller towns, such as Forney, Crandall, etc.  I've also considered Sachse or Rowlett.  Do any of you live in these areas?  Are they good places for raising children?  And would it really help with our commutes or am I kidding myself?  TIA!!

Re: Small towns near Dallas?

  • I'm from Rowlett and love it there. If you like that area Sachse, Wylie, and Murphy all have newer developments and things popping up.
  • That's great to hear!  What do you think the commute would be like to Richardson/Dallas?
  • Can you be a little more specific as to where you'd be headed? Richardson/Dallas like the area off 75? If that's the case you could take George Bush/190 up to 75 and then head south. 75 South is a beast during rush hour no matter where you're coming from. However, if you get on it off of 190 you're already on the border of Richardson and Plano so I don't think you'd have to go too far.
  • i have never been more shocked at slow-moving traffic than i am in frisco. i'm originally from southern california so i thought i knew bad traffic. i don't blame you for fleeing. my mom works less than 10 miles away and has a 40 minute commute. good grief!
