How do you organize your finances?
I have tracked our spending for the last 4 months and am working up a budget for us.
I'm just wondering how you ladies organize your finances. Do you keep things in a binder (bank statements, credit card statements, your budget information, utility bills, health and auto insurance information and etc.) or do you use a file cabinet or something?
I want to be more financially organized!!
Thanks!

This is what we do too. Then in the file cabinet we have folders for bank statements, bills, insurance info, etc. Most of our bills are fixed amounts though so I don't look too hard at them. They usually go straight into the file.

We don't get paper statements or bills for anything. I have a folder on my computer where I save them. I track spending in Excel. I don't do a very good job because I will sometimes forget or put off doing it for a long, long time, then when I finally sit down to do it, I don't remember whether the grocery store trip was really for groceries or for diapers or sending money through Western Union, or what.
I have a file box to keep the few things we do get in paper form, like insurance documents and bills from the hospital.
I have an app on my phone that helps me track my spending, and I'm old fashioned and write it all down so I can clearly see where everything's going. I keep bills and statements from a year out in a storage container, and I keep our medical stuff in a binder.
I will admit that I haven't been the best at budgeting. Our paychecks have been up and down so much over the past year that it's hard to know what we are and aren't getting. Now that H is stationed in CO and is getting all that sorted out, and my job handled me dropping my insurances, things should balance out so I can be better about budgeting.
We suck.
Ok, well technically I suck because I am in charge. I watch our online account like a hawk. I do store our bills in a filing cabinet though, and know exactly what paychecks go to what bills and how much we have left over...it's kind of in my head though since it's pretty steady. What we're starting to do though is put more into our joint savings (e.g. ideally the amount per week it would be for daycare) so we can get used to NOT spending that money.
i really need to get more organized with our medical bills. i'm getting so many EOBs and bills from the dr, hopsital, lab, etc i should probably match them up and make sure everything is copasetic.
Do you have Wellmark? I highly recommend paperless EOBs...it makes life so much easier.
I'm shocked! lol
