Kiah just gave birth to two babies!!! ah!!! I'm still shaking haha!!! Coolest thing ever!! Its SUPER rare to even witness them giving birth and she felt comfortable enough to be sitting in my hand the whole time while she was having them! EEK!!!!!!
I have pictures but I don't want to gross anyone out that isn't an animal dork like me haha. They aren't really graphic or anything like that, my mom says they look like pink jelly beans haha but I figured I'd see if anyone was interested in seeing them before I posted pictures
Re: I'm a grandmother!!!!
Sorry they are blurry!!
We kind of knew they were coming, we were just waiting to see if she would have them or not! We knew it would either be today or tomorrow! It kind of surprised me when I looked down and saw her giving birth!! One was already crawling up to her pouch and I actually got to see the second being born!!
I'm still just so blown away by it! coolest thing ever!!!

I KNOW!!! It was such an awesome feeling to realize that she trusted me that much!
now i'm super paranoid about doing EVERYTHING I can to make sure the babies are ok! haha
My mom and sister are taking bets on who the father is lol
my read shelf:
How neat! Do you think the father is one of your new ones or your old sugar glider? I'm not sure how much time the babies take to develop lol
P.S. can they neuter/spay sugar gliders? just in case if you dont want any more babies?

The father is one of the newer ones, I'm not sure if it works like it does in some other animals that the female can have babies from two separate fathers..theres really no way we'll be able to tell. Syd and Mel look a lot a like haha
Sugar gliders are like kangaroos so the babies are born after 16 days of internal development and crawl up to the pouch where they develop for another 10 weeks which is when they come out of the pouch. They won't be fully weaned until they are 5 months old though.
You can spay and neuter sugar gliders but its a lot easier to neuter the males, which we had done on our way back to Texas. The two we got were supposed to be neutered in the first place but it was done incorrectly and we didn't realize that until we saw them mating with kiah haha so we took them back to the vet that "neutered" them the first time and he redid it for free. It was quite an exciting week figuring out that we actually had 2 males that were intact lol
WOW! That must have been a surprise! Lol! But still, super exciting for the little babies
you'll have to keep posting pics of them as they grow!

Wow, 16 days is such a short gestation!
Congrats on the new additions! We were talking about sugar gliders at the dinner table the other night with my ILs (their friends have one named Sophie) and I thought of you and your babies. Once they come out of the pouch you will have to try and post pictures of them.
PS I totally giggled at your "I'm a grandmother" line haha. But I knew it meant Kiah must have had babies... Congrats to you and her (and the dads, lol) again!
