Do you do any of the shoveling?

I've noticed that of the two neighbors on either side of us, none of the women really ever get out and shovel.  They have their menfolk do it all.  Maybe it's because I grew up in a family of all girls, but we were always out there clearing the driveway and paths.

They're all able-bodied, though two of the women do have kids so I guess that's an excuse since they have to watch them.  But even before kids they weren't out there, and the teenage girls never help their dad.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I help; I feel guilty if I don't.

  • H usually shovels and I help sometimes... in the morning he shovels while I get ready for work (he goes in 2 hours after me). If he's not home I'll shovel.

  • only if MrT isn't home.  We have a huge snowblower - it takes no time at all to do the driveway.  If he had to actually shovel, I would help.

  • I did now and then. Honestly, I suck at shoveling and often Dh would send me back inside after a while because I was just so pathetic. Plus once, I lifted a shovel full that was too heavy and whacked the crap out of our car and left a dent in the hood.

The last 2 winters up there, I would help, but didn't feel bad if I didn't. I do plenty around the house that he doesn't. Plus, I didn't even want to live up there those last few years.

  • This time I did it all as hubby was dog sick.  We are both so over snow...and we used to enjoy it.
  • I shoveled yesterday because I got home first and there was a huge snowbank of slush and ice blocking our driveway.  That was miserable and my shoulders and back are definitely feeling it today.  Usually, DH does most of the shoveling and I will come out toward the end to help out with scraping the last stuff.  I have told him to buy a snowblower but he is dragging his feet on picking out the right one and getting a good deal.

  • Yes.  H always tells me I do not have to help, but I don't mind.  It is good exercise.  We use a snow thrower in the drive way so all we have to shovel is the stairs and walkway.  This winter we also had to shovel out a path to the coop, and all around the coop.  That is kind of a pain.

Have you guys been enjoying delicious fresh eggs, by the way?  Haven't heard you mention the chicks or DoggieCrushing in a while.  I could use some cute animal pics, hint hint Wink

  • SO and I live in a brownstone in Boston with five units. Four of the five units are occupied by men. The woman in our building is quick to put on her boots and shovel when it snows, but there is one guy in our building who is a little OCD about the snow, and he is out there all of the time... so usually he takes care of it. (for example... I shoveled the other day, went to clean off my car, came back 15 mins. later and he was shoveling the dusting of snow that had fallen in the 15 mins... crazy!!!)

Yes--the eggs are great.  The chicks are hens now so they aren't as cooperative about posing for photos with DoggieCrushing.  Now that it is winter they typically run out of their coop...realize how cold it is...and run right back in!

  • we've only lived one place where I had to, and when we did I did, and i helped with my parents house when i was there....so yes, but i dont have to right now, and DH goes out first so he'll clean my car too for me or my friend craig does :)

  • I always helped DH. He would use the snowblower and I would do the walkway, front steps, and back porch. Unless he was traveling and I would do it all myself, of course.

We also bring the snowblower right out onto the lake and clear us a skating rink!

This year I haven't helped at all because of the baby.

  • I usually try to help as much as possible but DH still does more.  Last year I didnt at all because I was pregnant. This year I haven't done much because I've spent most of the time inside with the little one but when he comes in to get a break I switch and go out to do some while he sits with her.

  • I try to shovel as much as possible but living in a condo with only street parking, I tend to continually shovel out spots that are then taken the next day- meanwhile, everyone else does a horrible job shoveling and I have to park in their spots.

Its not so bad though, my fiance always helps shovel... he is pretty swell.

  • DH will snowblow the driveway.  I'll shovel the front walkway and the stairs...
