I really want to switch to AT&T for TV and internet service, however, I was told by a customer service representative that only the U-verse internet service is available in my area.
I admit I don't know much about the AT&T service but having cable providers for several years this seems odd to me. With our cable company, if you can have one you can have the other as it all comes through the same line and each jack can be connected to either a modem/router or a cable box. Anybody a U-verse tech that can indicate how AT&T's service works? I don't have a lot of faith in the customer service representatives that I talk to as they are very confused by the concept of a condo building and the fact that it is rather new so not all units are in their system. It took over a half hour just for them to figure out that 4 units in my building have their internet service and that I could as well.
Thanks!
Re: AT&T U-verse
I was under the impression that you could NOT get internet only -- you had to bundle TV and internet. What does the website say is available in your area (uverse.att.com)?
For the record, I love my U-verse service. Let me know if you'd like to use my referral.
I agree that U-Verse is just bundling from what I understand.
According to my run around on the phone, U-Verse is different service. So the U-Verse phone service is different from regular AT&T phone service.
Yes -- sorry, that is correct. I believe you *have to* bundle U-verse Internet and U-verse TV together. U-verse voice is optional and you can have U-verse TV/Internet and AT&T home phone if you really want.

That is true, or at least it was when we signed up a few years ago. I can't imagine that they would have changed it though. I also can't imagine why anyone would choose regular AT&T home phone over U-verse phone. U-verse phone integrates so nicely with the TV - caller ID pops up on your TV screen, it's awesome. And there's an iPhone app that notifies you when you have a voice mail on your home phone and you can listen to it on your iPhone. It's so handy.

I know I am a little late to respond on this but I just wanted to add in that you do not have to bundle it.
We currently have the TV and internet through U-Verse bundled. However a friend of mine just has the TV and his internet through the regular cable company, not AT&T.
For a while, U-verse Voice wasn't available in our area -- it was TV and Internet only. It is so much nicer to have all 3 now!
