I just finished the book I was reading and I'm am currently in the market for a new one. I'm not an avid reader and the only books I've been able to actually sit down with has been chick-lit. Does anyone have any recommendations?
If it helps, I've read all of Lauren Weisberger's and Jennifer Lancaster's books, and I love Emily Griffin.
Please help.
Re: Chick-Lit Recs
Carl Hiaasen - Skinny Dip. Not really chick lit but hysterically funny. Husband and a wife go on a cruise, he is having an affair and wants his wife out of the picture so he tries to bump her off by dumping her overboard. She doesn't die - washes up in the FL keys on a bale of marijuana. She's rescued by a guy who is quite a character and they decide to torment her soon to be ex-husband by "haunting" him since he thinks she died. If you read it and like it, Nature Girl is another of his funnier ones.
I get a kick out of all of his books - they are a little off the wall humor wise but I will laugh out loud at least once every time I get my hands on a new one.
I also really enjoyed My Sister's Keeper. It is more chick-lit but I thought it was very thought provoking about the issues raised in the book. Basically, a little kid wants to be medically emancipated from her family because she has sort of been used as a cell donor for her older sibling who has cancer.
I've always enjoyed Sophie Kinsella...she did the Shopaholic series, as well as a few other fun novels.
Also, Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah...LOVED that book!! It is about the friendship of two women over several decades. I laughed, I cried, great book!!
I love Jennifer Weiner!
I love love love Sophie Kinsella's books and I also enjoy Jennifer Weiner. I just read a book that I enjoyed called There's cake in my future by Kim Gruenenfelder. The ending was a little weak but I enjoyed it overall, I thought it was funny and a light read. She's also written A total waste of makeup and Misery loves Cabernet and I am interested to read them both.If you are interested in Sophie Kinsella, I adore the Shopaholic series but her others are great as well. My favorite (non shopaholic) is Can you Keep a Secret. Let us know if you stumble upon something great!
I read a lot of Nora Roberts but I fine if you read to many in a row you really notice how similar they are. I also find Sophie Kinsella to completely irritating...especially the shopaholic books, cringe.
I did find one of Meg Cabots latest books to be pretty darn good. It was called Insatiable, and yes it's about vampires (what's not these days) but it was a good story and you can tell there are going to be more in the series. It was really funny and not twilighty at all.
Not really chick-lit (since it is by a guy) but She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb is my all time favorite book.
I just read Jodi Picoult's book House Rules which was also really good. Also not exactly chick-lit, but I'm not a big chick-lit reader so this is the best I can do
