Most of you know from my posts on here that DH's job goes through periods of sanity followed by periods of insane working hours. Right now he's in one of those insane periods. He starts work at 4:30 am and leaves at 5:30 pm-ish. Six days a week. Sometimes even seven days a week. He's home long enough in the evenings to eat dinner, pack his lunch, shower, and go to bed. He's also cranky a lot of the time, which just isn't fun. He doesn't try to take out his work frustrations on me but some overlap of emotions is inevitable. DH is off this Saturday and we're going to have a "date night" but there's only so much you can do when you have to be home for DH's 7:30 bedtime.
He applied for a different job/promotion a few months ago and he recently found out he didn't get it (this is the government, everything moves slowly). This week he decided he's finally had enough of these working conditions and he asked his boss for a lateral transfer to another work group that has normal working hours. They're going to let him transfer...after this crazy period is over. There are only a few people with DH's skill set and he's a victim of his own success -- if he was a terrible employee, they'd transfer him immediately! LOL! DH is hopeful that this period will be over in a month or so. Keep your fingers crossed for us, ladies! More family time is on the horizon!
Re: update on DH's job
My Wedding Bio! Not updated in a LONG time!
I was pleasantly surprised as well. They group he's moving to has an opening, so it's not like they're making a special new job for him or anything. His boss has known for some time that DH wasn't happy with his current job. By transferring him to this new role, they'll at least keep him within the division. They knew that if they didn't allow him this lateral move, he'd start applying to jobs outside the division.
