Laryngopharyngeal reflux.

Do you know anyone who has this? Are there any nurses here who can tell me more about it? I was diagnosed in the fall after having a horrible horrible cough year after year. The Prevacid and Nasonex are not working and I am sitting here in tears over how miserable I am. I have been coughing for 3 weeks straight with no relief. I can honestly say I am hating life right now and I have no idea what to do. Of course I will be calling the ENT in the morning, but I'm so sick of this.

Re: Laryngopharyngeal reflux.

  • Did they scope your throat to diagnose you? Are you using Prevacid over the counter or the prescription dose? If it is OTC you could take 2 to get the rx dose. Do you have a cough mostly at night? If so, it is possible it could be asthma too. Temporarily, until you get a chance to talk to the ENT, you could take a Zantac or tums, and sleep slightly sitting up.
  • I've never heard of it, but I hope you can get some answers (and relief!!) soon!

  • I don't have that, but I do have GERD, which is caused by a similar mechanism (as far as I know).  Prevacid didn't work for me, but zantac (as Mary suggested) does, and sleeping at a slight incline helped a lot.  Also, if you haven't yet, take a look at your diet; I realized I had to cut out hot tea at night, and I don't drink a lot of alcohol anymore.

  • Can you pick up some papaya enzyme tablets, they are natural for helping with reflux pain. You could take a bazillion of them and be fine.

I used them for most of my pregnancy. At least it could supplement the antacid.

I hope you feel better Christy
