Flying for the first time....
This is the first time we are going to travel by airplane. Can you give me tips? What can or can't take? How many hours before the flight leaves do we have to be there?? TIA

You might also try posting over on the Austin Bump
There is a lot more activity over there and a bunch of ladies with kids who could help!
ETA: Assuming of course that you are traveling with your kids.
my suggestions, right off the top of my head:
~ don't wear anything with metal if you can help it. put jewelry in your carry on and put it on after you pass through security
~ wear shoes that slip on and off; i also like to wear socks so my dainty, bare feet don't have to come in contact with the floor
~ if you have one, put your quart sized ziploc (http://www.tsa.gov/311) in an easily accessed pocket on your carry on so you can just whip it out and not have to dig
~ keep your tickets and license/passport in an easily accessible place for getting out and stuffing back in at security
~ pack the basics (ex. pair of undies, contact case and solution, medicines, toothbrush and paste) in your carry on in case your luggage gets lost or delayed
~ don't put anything in your suitcase of value or that is breakable
~ bring entertainment
~ pack shampoo, conditioner, etc., in ziplocs in case of leakage at high altitudes
~ if you're going to be on a long flight that offers movies or tv, bring your own headphones
~ if in doubt, arrive early. they won't hold the plane. i usually get there 2 hours early for domestic flights
~ you can take snacks through security but not drinks. but there's almost always a place to buy drinks after you get through security
~ i don't know if they're still doing this, but when we traveled last year, they were making everyone take off all sweaters, pullovers, etc., and of course, i had on a fleece pullover. i had static hair forever. wear layers that are easily removed.
~ if taking a laptop, be prepared to take it out to put it through the xray machine
