Pumping Question

I only have two bottles with me today but I'd like to pump one more time before I leave.

Can I pump warm/fresh milk into the cold milk that I pumped at 10:00am that is in the fridge? I'm going to go out and buy a couple more bottles tonight.

Side note: I've been really working to increase my supply since I can't use all that frozen milk right now. I pump after every feeding and I've seen a significant increase. I'm almost pumping 4 ounces on each breast now. Thank God for lactation consultants!

Re: Pumping Question

  • Good job Brianne's boobies! :)  I think you're probably not supposed to combine the warm with the cold, but it probably won't be the end of the world if you do it just today.  You could also just leave out the 10am milk until your next pumping and then combine so they're both warm/room temp and then refrigerate.  I found it good to have 4 bottles at work and then extras at home so I could store some in the fridge as well.

  • They say you aren't supposed to put milk in the fridge, add to it and then freeze it. But maybe if you just add to it and then he eats that tonight it wouldn't be that bad? Like Megan said, this one time probably wouldn't hurt. Next time, I'd do what Megan said with leaving the first pumping out and then adding to it. That's usually what I did when my supply started decreasing and I didn't make up a full bottle.
  • I broke all sorts of rules like that all the time, and Owen lived to tell the tale with no stomach issues whatsoever.  I think clouts mentioned that she did a lot of those "musn'ts" as well.  I wouldn't do it as practice, but it's not going to hurt once in a while.

Yes, I was also a rule breaker, but you have to do what you are comfortable with.
